A lap of France..... a possible suggestion

Having toured many times with both of you...... wish I could join you, if only for part of the trip.

Next year, God willing, weather permitting, the Emerald Isle is calling. Unlike our French excursion, no camping. The hope is to ride all the way around and into bits of the middle.

PS I am sure there will be some comedy moments, as there usually are.

The Howler is joining us for three days down on the Med coast, top tourist that he is. Flying from Luton, then a train. Returning via train, then Dublin, then London.

The first fly in the ointment has surfaced and we haven’t even left yet. Our booking on the Portsmouth to St Malo crossing has been cancelled and we are now on the later Portsmouth to Caen crossing. The reason? The French stevedores are refusing to tie down motorcycles and lorries on the St Malo crossing. You really couldn’t make this shite up. One minute they are all out of a job as there are vastly reduced crossings, now they are back in a job and bolshy. But hey, British dockers were no better, on strike and refusing to handle loads on the way to D-Day.

You're always very kind in offering help to people who ask for advice on foreign travel (if occasionally a little caustic) so I hope you have a brilliant trip & enjoy yourself immensely. Take care & be safe, 3 rings when you get home please. :thumb2

Thank you. It’s been a rollercoaster of “It’s on, it’s off, it’s on again... no it’s not.... oh, it’s on again”, going back to March. Most of all I’m pleased for David, whose retirement bash it is.

An escorted lap of France for the over 60s.

You should advertise in Saga Magazine. :D

Sounds like my Romania trip

Which is now fully off so we will be doing something not dissimilar to yours but RDGA then Ardeche and up through the somme avoiding Reims as we dont want our bikes nicked

Splendid. :beerjug: :D

There are always alternative channel crossings. if you end up on the tunnel let me know and I will arrange a reception party for you and David.

Enjoy your month away....a separate ride report required & don't drink any over-proof spirits ;)

Sounds good. Enjoy! But keep ‘em peeled for a stolen BMW and KTM.

Many thanks, stuout guardian. We return, God willing, via the Chunnel. I will be checking for dark fellows, clinging to the underside of the 1600.

Touch wood, it’s going along OK so far....

There’s just a couple of little bits in the route that I need to tidy-up but overall, if you want to hit the D roads of France from Caen to the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, it’s pretty good.

Four nights on the street in France, on the Mediterranean coast, close to Spain and the badlands of Africa!
