I'll have Wednesday Evening ( No idea what time it gets dark - ) all day Thursday and Friday until around 1730..

Get a 'small' Sporty, Airbnb somewhere cool like this (shed loads of quirky, cool stuff in the Nevada National Park) and just kick back 'desert sledging' the bike during the day and at night watching the stars and drinking JD :okay

That's absolutley what I'd do (except I wouldn't hire a fecking Harley, a big dirt bike yes)

Before you go looking for a board on rails or a sand dune to slide down, the hippy meant "desert sledding". :D :augie

"...The name Desert Sled refers to standard motorcycles over 500 cc that were modified by riders for use in the Californian desert with knobbly tyres, reinforced suspension, spoked wheels and engine protection plates to protect the bike against the debris of impassable desert roads..."

Nope, I know exactly what I meant.........

The valley of fire for the scenic ride

The Hoover dam

There are a couple of ghost towns near Las Vegas

By the way, eagle rider have a couple of piss pots if you’re lucky otherwise you’ll be wearing a skull cap jobbie

Pick up bike Wednesday PM, ride to Hoover dam( you used to be able to go inside)and stay around lake Mead area, Thursday have a leisurely ride through the old towns to the Grand Canyon and stay overnight so you can get up early for the sunrise, takes a couple of hrs or so for the light to reach the bottom of the canyon and the colours are changing all the time, we went in November and we drove overnight from Vegas (in T shirts & shorts)and didn’t realise we were climbing on the way, arrived to snow at the canyon rim at 06:30:blast
Leisurely ride back after breakfast, cruise the strip on your steel horse;) fly home.
There is a time zone change in the middle of the dam which can upset timings!!!

:dabone

Go and suck a carrot. :D

It's about 150 miles to Furnace Creek in Death Valley and DV itself is 180 miles long.
Well worth a tootle round there. Maybe bed down in Furnace Creek then head off to the Hoover Dam (3 hours) from there.
The Hoover Dam will bring you within striking distance of LV.
It's always a temptation to do too much and this is comfortable within the time you have.

Enjoy wherever you go.:beerjug:

I enjoyed Antelope Canyon, which is [relatively] near; But then you said that you are not after sightseeing. I did 3000 miles in a couple of weeks (on 4 wheels) from LA to Monument Valley [meandering about and including LV]. I loved the desert sights in Arizona/Utah but did not really think much of the Death Valley, and the roads are anything but challenging in any way. If you are after an "iron Butt"-style accolade, it is perfect for that, though.

Enjoy! I am guessing it is CES and not the Potato expo you are going to, then? :)

its about five hours drive to the grand canyon ,you will drive over the hoover dam ,its the main road, both williams and kingman are worth stopping at ,both places have plenty bars and restaurants ,its about 14 years since i did it in a car ,the car had ac ,so when i got out of the car i could hardly breath with the heat ,i still remember the ground was so hot when i had a pee behind the car it evaporated almost instantly.

It's neither - a small ERP event at the end of January - its a smallish expo for global partners.....

i have 2.5 days and want to do a circle looping back to LV - Lake Mead / Grand Canyon loop has legs or a Death Valley Loop - i notice some reservations to the east - maybe worth a look see... but to be honest i just want to ride the roads, and have a few beers and a steak before bed - early start and repeat.

weather in Jan is circa 15 degrees - but cold at night - so a good spring day in the UK... perfect.

It is all rocks really.....Monument valley is doable, as is Moab and the Parks around there, they are stunning, the colour of the rocks is amazing and there is a meteorite strike place around there with even more stunning colours to it, then there is Dead Horse Point and all that stuff.

It is all mostly rocks though and what they have to bring to your life and all the above have mentioned, there are also a couple of Gold Strike towns that are deserted, but they are shite in reality....I recall Calico, that was really shite.

Nellis air force base is near by if you want to bore yourself stupid with that shit and maybe see a stealth thing......Nascar is not on in January, so you fucked that.

If it were me...….I would get fucked up on drugs and shag myself stupid in the Pyramid/Bellagio/Castle themed one, they are all tacky as fuck and no one will ever remember you...Depends what you want......But be aware, the drivers in that neck of the woods are fucking woeful and will not care if they kill you......So keep your distance from the car in front.....Stoners all over the place.
