Apologies in advance, I’m sure this has been put out there, but undecided weather to trade my 2016 triple black with 21k on her, and all the extras to make it my own, for a new 1250, it’s in excellent condition, hasn’t missed a beat, and is regularly serviced by BMW, I know it’ll depreciate as the years go by but it’s the reliability that’s put the question mark in my mind, I have European breakdown cover etc, I know it’s the luck of the draw, and even new bikes can let you down, but was just curious as to what mileages you guys have racked up.

I kick the arse out of mileage.

Mines just turning 40k and has never missed a beat.

I have it serviced every 6k and ignore calendar based servicing.

I also do an oil change at the 3k point.

Maybe I’ve been lucky but I believe that regular oil changes are worth it.

Cue loads of GS legends blathering on about you don’t need to change oil etc etc.

It’s not expensive and keeps me happy so I do it.

Unless you’re v keen on 1250 for other reasons ,shift cam etc, I’d run with tour current wheels :)

Keep it. You've made it your own. Why chuck another £6 to £8k for what will be pretty much the same ?

...and I'm with the above re in-between oil changes for the sake of £20 a pop. Well worth it

My 1200GS TE has done 32,000 miles. Love the bike & have no plans to change. Just bought a nice new set of Torx sockets as a late Chrimbo pressie for it!

1996 RT 56,000 kms
2000 GS 236,000 kms
2016 GS 112,000 kms
2002 GS 12,700 kms
20xx twin cam, got rid of it as quickly as I could
2014 GS 32,000 kms, retired from riding.
2017 kms 5500kms so far, riding again

Keep it mate, and start to do a few miles. It’s still new.

Phil

My bought new by me 2009 F800GS is now at 127,000 miles.
Seems to still go OK and I still like it.

'17 GS TE 27,000mls
If you want a 1250 get one, othwerwise just rack up the miles on yours, don't worry about the reliability, all the silly things that could have gone wrong would have done so by now.

Im coming up to the end of warranty on my latest 18 Plate GSA and have been pondering on this. withing 18 months I've put 20k miles on this one, and as its got all the bells and whistles that the latest have, other than 50cc and shiftcam, Its not missed a beat, zero corrosion and is set up exactly as i want it.
So, for the first time in several years, I think Im going to keep this one.

Keep it :thumb2 mines a 2006 GSA when i bought it in 2011 it had 20,000 on the clock which to me for over here was high mileage. Its now got 62,000 miles and its as good as it was when i bought it.

I learned to service it myself and it gets regular oil changes every 6000 miles.

In 2014 i had similar quandry as to trading it in for the TE watercooled GSA, the local dealer offered me a pittance for mine.

Realising id probably have to part with another £8000 (probable double that today) for effectively the same bike just for zero mileage and some extra electronics i decided to keep it.

It has been and stiil is extremely reliable and all i really need, reading that others have put over 150,000 on theirs means mine is only just run in. :D.

2013 and approaching 50k miles. Never had a problem with it. It does everything I want from a bike and to px it for a 1250 would cost me £12k. I don't think the 1250 is £12k better, so I'll keep mine and keep increasing the mileage.

Thanks guys, I’m pretty sure she’s a keeper, like some say, it’s only just run in, it’s still like new, it’s got all the bells and whistles, and still feels fresh when riding", I will keep it serviced and maintained and spend the winter planning this years trips.

2016 GSA TE with 17K miles. Not missed a beat, a few spots of corrosion around the headers, but not got worse (barely noticeable) otherwise minty as in "showroom" minty. No plans to change it. The risk is really with the ESA suspension on these needing a full overhaul or replacement circa 25K miles or sooner which is a £2.5K kick in the groin, but that is still way way cheaper than trading it in for a 1250 and providing regular oil changes are done and it's maintained to current standards, it should go on for years.

Mines a 1250 Adv with a shade under 20'000 , to be fair im a heavy lump so hopefully if the esa goes itll be within the 3 years

21,000? Not even run in. Think about changing it when there is another '0' on the end.
1980 R100RS was sold to make way for my first GS1150 with 334,000 trouble free miles, still on original clutch, wheel bearings, suspension, even the valve heads which are supposed to fall off at 40,000 miles!

2002 R1150GS - similar to above, but stick coils replaced due to corrossion. 98,000 miles and it is still going strong in the area with 221,000 on it now.

2003 1150GSA - sold with 125,000 miles on it simply because one came up on here with 24,000 miles and was only £500 more, so was a no brainer! That old one is still going and I hear from the owner from time to time and he is chuffed to bits and says it is ther sweetest sounding engine of all his group.

Mileage is meaningless on its own. A bike that has been treated badly and thrashed for 30,000 miles compared to a bike that has been treated sympathetically and well for 200,000 miles. The high mileage is likely to be more reliable than the low mileage one.

Totally agree......Has been my experience with bikes for more than 30 years.
