F650GS twin instruments

Looking for some help here.

The instrument cluster on my 2011 F650GS has completely packed up.

Over the last couple of months the cluster has been making whirring noises for ages after I turn the ignition off, with the speedo and tacho needle bouncing.

Last week the speedo stopped working and the LCD went blank. The tacho was still working.

I’ve. Taken the cluster off, opened it, it was dry inside and nothing obviously wrong seen. There were traces of moisture behind the bungs in the back of the cluster but I couldn’t see any moisture inside. I left it in the drying cupboard overnight then put it back on.

I started the bike, everything lit up and worked. Riding to work the other morning everything on the cluster stopped working. The bike still runs fine, just no instruments.

Any suggestions? Is it repairable?

OK, it doesn't reach a detailed conclusion, but there are several good troubleshooting ideas.

So it turns out it was water ingress through the multi plug at the back of the instrument panel. There is a block beside the plug with about 10 pins, the live feed had completely corroded through. There wasn’t much left to solder onto it so it might be a short term repair.

At least you’re sorted for now. Fingers crossed.....

Good find - then you need the correct crimping tool, or know someone who has.
