Hi all, anyone got a PDF file for the Romantic road route from Fussen to Wurzburg ( I think ). Looked online but not having any luck finding one.

I don't have a route, but from memory when I rode bits of it a few years ago it wasn't a spectacular biking route. Unless you have a particular reason for riding that route, there might e better alternatives. I don't know that for sure though.

Thanks Wapping, I tried that one but can't open it in basecamp. Presumably because its a .ITN file

Tried 3 different ones now. I wonder if its anything to do with the Garmin update problem ?. But thank you anyway.

I might have a gpx file of it at home but won’t be back for a week or so, if you can wait.

Yeah, there's no rush mate, I'm just trying to get organised a bit early as I've got a few days off to sort myself out. Are you anywhere nice ?

Watching the rugby at my mum’s in Stratford-upon-Avon.

I have hunted in my Dropbox account via my iPhone. Try this.

I can open it on my iPhone in the Scenic app, so it should be OK. Let us know, please.

Agree. Some pretty towns & castles along the route but the road itself was a major route full of trucks that reminded me of the hateful B31 from the Black Forest to Lake Constance

i have that very .gpx from wapping and can confirm it is good to go

thanks Richard, worked a treat. Wessie, I've the best reason of all to go there. The girlfriend wants it !!!!

Should be okay if her idea of Romance is a truck stop Imbiss serving Currywurst, Pfannkuchen and Radler.

It’s a lot better at the southern end if you take the B16 between Fussen and Donauworth to avoid Augsburg, although it’s still not the most exciting ride :thumb2 I do like the old towns though, especially Rothenburg

The purpose of the Romantic route (or ‘road’) is not to be a great road for bikers to hoon along. Rather it’s a route to join the so called, ‘Romantic towns’ that people (including some on motorbikes) might want to visit. If you want to ride ‘pretty good roads for bikers’, use the very much larger Deutsche Alleenstrase or ‘German Avenue Road’ specifically designed to take bikers - and touring car drivers - across the huge country:

Yes, it’s in ‘foreign’ but hey, you’ll work it out.

Germany is awash with ‘routes’ and ‘roads’ celebrating all sorts of cultural, geographical or interesting (if you like that kind of thing) places:

The idea extends out into other countries, too:

My first tip: Tap around in Google, you can’t break it. If you something interesting, bookmark it. My second tip: If you find something really interesting (particularly pdf maps or gpx files) download and save them then and there. They sometimes vanish if the author closes or moves their website.

Indeed, exactly why we never bothered, might of been better suited when we were 2-up, but now she has her own bike we both agree we would rather ride an exciting road to a boring town.

It does however drop you off at the Alps ;-)
