Newly acquired BMW F800GSA is due its 3 year/12,000 mile service in April this year.

Dealer 1. Oh its the big service with valve clearances needing checked , it will be
4 hours labour plus parts so approx £530

Dealer 2. Yep big service it will be at most £350 and if it didn't have a brake fluid
change last year perhaps £30 more, so £380 maximum

Dealer 3. Oh big service but according to the computer it had brake fluid last year
so it will be £280

All 3 are BMW Motorrad dealers but ffs, one is quoting £90 per hour labour !!!!!!!!

My tame mechanic works at a major BMW Motorrad dealers and the last official labour price I got from him was £110 per hour Plus VAT.
Needless to say that he services my bike on a private basis at less than a quarter of that.

Try Darren at Newham Motorcycles in Blyth he will use BMW parts so your warranty is still intact bot he will do a better job and less costly.
He knows BMW`S well.

Get it serviced before end March at Winter rates

Surprised they are not higher. There is a lot of body and airbox to strip on these before you even get to the rocker box - ever tried to change the plugs yourself?
The bonus is, once checked at 12k its unlikely to need doing again - see experience of Micky et al.

I do 10K miles a year on my 8GSA so imagine how I feel about serviving costs!! The schedule all relates to date intervals and mileage intervals.
It's a bit cheaper if you supply the fluids like engine oil, fork oil, brake fluid yourself - you can get it at about 1/2 or 2/3rds the price of the BMW branded stuff.

I have just come out of my BMW warranty so do some stuff myself and get them to do the more complex stuff. Time is important for me so sometimes it is easier / cheaper for me to get BMW to do it.

PM me your email address and I'll send you some example service schedules and costs from 3 years ago to give you an idea what to expect.

Try mick Kendrick independent service. Sunderland.
And as already mentioned change the oil and filter yourself.

Ta for the offer, to be honest I can do the servicing myself but it is a lot less hassle when it is under the 2 year approved used warranty period . I have a gs911 wifi and when I had my old r1150gs loved doing the servicing including clutch changes, bevel box replacements etc but since 2011 all the bikes have been either under the new warranty or extended ones from BMW so have got out of the habit.

Always been an excuse to run a couple of older non BMW's to mess about with.

Same with cars , find out how much a garage charges and how much the specialist tools cost to do it myself .........more often than not I then buy the specialist tool and do the job

Biked booked in for the end of the month at dealer 3 confirmed price of £280 which includes the valve clearances and air filter

F#CKING LYING BUNCH OF TW€TS, dealer 3. Who quoted me max of £280 and who has had the bike for nearly 4 weeks due to a warranty issue are now expecting £416 for the service.
Will have to pay but this and the warranty problem ( or lack of it) are going into the hands of my solicitor .
Once sorted I will name and shame the shysters

Do you have the quote in writing such as email, text etc

My local Mercedes main dealer unashamedly quoted me £170 per hour for labour charges when I enquired with them about having some work done on my car.

Unfortunately not, but I do have a witness, to be honest I am so bloody sick of them by now I just want the bike back from the dealer and I will pursue it from there.

I had just about persuaded myself that I needed to change my 2018 model r1200gsa for a new r1250 gsa hp at the back end of the year but this particular dealer can FRO if they think I am giving them any further business

Can we do a poll? My vote is for AJ

Naughty that

Well picked the bike up today, what a suprise the bill suddenly went down to £283 with no explainations.

Warranty issue is a persistant rattle/knock from motor that is getting worse, but the bigger issue is the bike was purchased used from a BMW main dealer and under the 2 year approved used warranty banner. BUT BMW UK according to an email from their customer care dept can find no trace of the bike on their system re the warranty.
Have had the bike since late January and due to lock down couldn't pursue the fact I did not get a warranty card, since then end of lock down have been fobbed off by the dealer on half a dozen occasions as to why I haven't received any proof of the warranty.
Thus the reason I contacted BMW UK
It may be that they have put the wrong vrm on the computer or got the VIN wrong but FFS 6 months to not manage to sort it out

£3 over, you woz robbed !!!!

Seems strange, maybe the BMW dealer you purchased it from, never bought an AUB Warranty, from BMW UK??

I would speak to the supplying dealer's aftercare manager, for an explanation

What does your purchase invoice state?

BMW AUB warranty or no mention of it on the sales invoice???
