Over here!
part 10, "plastic washer" in diagram

both mine were felt and came off. do i need to replace and, if so, how? i have no problem with gear shifts, just asking out of interest

Buy some new ones and fit them.

To fit them remove spring clip (11) and take the selector rod (2) off. Clean and grease ball and socket, and re-assemble.

thanks, will add to list. wasn't clear that the spring clip retains. cheers

It looks like they would keep the grease in and the crud out of the ball and socket joint, so, must worth 10 minutes of your time to fit new ones IMHO. :thumb2

Fwiw, when I removed the clips the straight section that passes through the socket to retain the ball was bent - one more than the other. It needed ot be straightened to refit.

Also, important to remember to remove neg terminal from battery given proximity to starter connections.

Pretty simple job but not convinced it makes much of a difference
