Hi from Busselton in SW Australia. Grew up in NZ riding bikes in lovely twisties. Had 28 years off MCs while raising our family, started back up with a 1990 FJ1200 Yami in 2011. Since then bought a 2007 FJR1300 Yami. Looking to do more touring with my wife now that we are retired, and are planning a Tassie trip early next year.

Looking at buying a 2015 R1200RT with 73k on the clock next week explicitly for this trip. Any advice on what to look out for would be greatly appreciated. FJR will be traded.

I had a 10 plate 1200 RT with all the bells etc, conti road attack tyres IIRC and full BMW luggage.

Very comfortable 2 up touring, reasonable tank range, pleasant to ride but ultimately I found it rather bland.

HTH.

Is it liquid or air cooled ? Although heresy in these parts I found the air cooled less interesting than the liquid cooled engines. I had a 2014 RT and traded it for a Multi-Strada, which changed into a 1200 GSA. It’s a matter of opinion 75000 kms is not huge for these bikes. Well serviced is key.

I suspect the areas to check are switchgear, final drive wear, electronic anomaly’s, I’m sure there must be a list somewhere.

I enjoyed the 1200 GSA which I traded for the 1250 GSA last September.

Oh and Welcome, where are you situated?

What is a Tassie trip (Scotland or Tasmania ??) or ??
Good miles on what should be a watercooled machine - should be grand if has been properly serviced - check swinging arm bearings would be my only thought (not difficult to sort anyways)

at least it should be cheap with those miles , great for touring , mine is 2015 too , but only 32,000 miles - quick , comfortable and economical , and .................

cheers

I broke my neck at Bunker bay,

Then spent most of Sunday walking round Bussleton - That pier is bloody amazing, with a coke can in my hands to try and stop the burning sensation in my hands lol

Then drove back to Perth, before being given the good news lol

Fractured C4 and displaced disc in C5 lol

Would love to back there in better circumstances next time

Welcome aboard :) :thumb
