Having taken the tank off to change fuel filter i found the below sat in a space far too big for it, wrapped in toilet paper and a plastic bag, loose in between the battery and the aluminium box in front of it. Is it the ECU? I think it may be something to do with the previous owner removing the ABS. My question is what is it and how best to support it, other than toilet paper and plastic bag. Thanks in anticipation

It’s the ABS (servo brakes) Ecu. The previous owner left it to save having to redo all the wiring for the brake lights etc.

It needs to be protected from water ingress, and secured.

Use your imagination, or search the forum. Make a backing plate and use silicon sealant. What ever you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for that. I did as you suggested and a good idea is to use a thin plastic chopping board cut to size. Cheers

Put it in a bag for life and cable tie it out of the way.
