650 X Challenge Radiator Leak

We managed to straighten this XChallenge rad and seal the ends back on at the TT last year. Amazingly it didn’t leak and is still in use :D

Aftermarket radiator

Good afternoon all,

finally got around the making some enquiries on this, and had a very promising phone call with a company the specialise in making and repairing MX radiators.

At present they are snowed under with work, but we have provisionally booked the beginning of August in to get a bike to them and start looking further into this.

Currently I have no idea on costs- but I plan to try and put a large group buy together to keep the costs as sensible as possible.

Watch this space.

Me also, probably for multiple rads, depending on price. Some of mine are very tired.

It seems that the x challenge, x country and x moto use the same radiator as suggested by RealOEM part number (17117706672)
There is a second hand x country rad (2009 with 17547miles) on eBay at the moment worth checking out

Hope this helps

Is there anything that prevents fitting a radiator from a totally different bike, assuming the physical form factor is compatible ?
Because I've seen quite a few cheap aftermarket radiators on AliExpress from China.

Most of them have the input on one side and the output on the other side, so there would be a need to have a coolant hose across it, but beside that I didn't see any other issue.

Is there something special to the G650 radiators ?

I don't think there is anything special aside from the main features inlet / outlet being on one side, but looking for a more effective rad with a more open fin spacing is what I think people on here are after. I believe that was what the PACE Developments item offered.

I'll happily wait to see if Nathan can get some interest from a manufacturer as I really need to be able to wash muck through the rad after a ride which the OEM struggles with.

I've tried adapting a larger rad off a Honda Rubicon quad, but it was too much of a faff.

Would a radiator from a G650GS/ Scarver suit?
What about the Husky Terra/Strada 653 - as far as I understand it, those bikes are very close to the same bike in a different dress.

There are a number of companies out there, but I don't know who Nathan has approached, so don't want to tread on his toes. This it's worth putting some options up on here tho. AlliSport are also well thought of in their field:

I looked at the Terra rad. Inlet outlet on the wrong side and looks to be a deeper rad. Mounting points are different, but could adapt. One in Oz for sale below:

Howcome the Husky has the radiator back to front? The water pumpmost be the same side, surely - it is the same 652cc Rotax.

Me no comprende.

Dunno. Been looking at pics of the bike online and the rad on the link I posted. Can see the pipe routing

Just a thought, buuut, what about trying to find a rad that almost fits, then getting the hoses manufactured to line up. As long as brackets can be made up, might be an option. Sorry don't mean to through a spanner in the works.

My latest acquisition also had a bent rad. Maybe in for several of these if they can still produce them. My fingers are crossed!

Nathan, did they get much further with this?

Need to chase this up in the new year, still have 3 days leave to take before the end of February, and still have an XChallenge here to use as a model, so will make use of both to hopefully get this sorted.
Apologies for dropping off the boil with this, mother nature has hammered me on a contract at work, and a job that should have taken no more than 2 weeks ended up taking 2 1/2 months-including weekends!

Desk is now clearing so i plan to get back on this..
