Hi folks

Let me know if you come across an old Cali that’s in need of some love.

When I was looking for a Norge I joined the Moto Guzzi Club UK - can't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't a lot and it gives you access to the members' ads.

Paul

PS Never bought the Norge, I got sidetracked by Pint6X's R1100RS which I still love. :blast

Also try Guzziriders

Good luck, I really fancy doing the same but not for a long while yet

Cheers Paul

Yes I’ve taken the plunge - I was a member ages ago when I had my old V50 Mk III.

There’s a Cali 3 full fairing popped up on FB just down the road from me in Marlow. One to follow up on.

So a full fairing Cali III has come up for c. £1.5k. 50k miles, everything is there but looking a little tired, obvs I can't go and see it but seller seems genuine.

Sound reasonable?

Possibly the ugliest variant of all, but it's a project so go and rub some loveliness into it :thumb

ps - chap on eBay with four Quota's and willing to deal; based in Bude though ...

I have to agree with this.......and if you remove that 'thing' from the front of the bike god only knows how much you'd still need to do and it's still not much of a looker....sorry, you did ask Nic ;) It is a reasonable price though......

Quota's? Now you're taking :thumb2

What about Mikeyboy's unfinished cafe racer project?

I don't have the matching shell suit for the Quota sadly. No it's a cruiser that I'm after.

I have also been offered an '81 T3 with a lot of work done to it, it seems very sensitively, for c £3k. It has no screen, the seat and engine protection bars don't look quite right, but the rest of it does.

Mikeyboy's looks lovely but at 6'3" I don't think I'd even make it to Starbucks.

Is that a T3 Cali? If so the price sounds reasonable if it's all there(ish). Even a ratty T3 would fetch that these days......

6'3''? Have you ever sat on a Guzzi? At 6' my old T3 Cali isn't exactly a great fit with my knees almost level with my chest (ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration but the old Tonti Guzzis were defo built for the smaller, shorter Italian frame).

Cheers Andres - yes it's a 850 California T3. I've had a v50 Mk III before, and this isn't intended to take me around the world!

Well V50's are even tinier than the 850's so if you were happy on that you'll be fine :D

£3000 for a T3 Cali that's mostly there and basically sound sounds pretty good to me :thumb2 and as you'll no doubt know all the bits you need are still pretty much available. Sounds well worth looking into further.

Personally I'd bite their hand off 'cos even for a standard T3 that's good.

You're right about the crash bars not being original, here's mine taken just now for you to compare to. You'll need new lower frame rails I think as it doesn't look like yours have the lugs on them to mount foot boards (assuming you want foot boards?). Obviously the seat isn't a Cali seat (available but very expensive and you'd need the grab rail/rack thing for it to fit to) and those carbs look weird, 80's Mikunis? It's possible it's a T3 made to look a bit like a Cali? Still wouldn't put me off though.......

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, when you don't know peop[le it's difficult to know what they do/do not know :thumb2

I'm always happy to be reminded how to suck eggs by those who know!

Good spot on the carbs, they're Mikuni's fitted in 2013. Bike has been stripped and the frame rebuilt and powder coated. Forks chromed and reground, bike and repainted. New guides & valves, bores and pistons virtually new.

Cali Mk 2 bottom rails and side stand, which suggests the frame might have been swapped out at restoration - need to have a chat with the seller.

That's a few hundred quid spent right there.

From what I see in the pic those are not cali frame rails as they appear to be missing the brackets for the footboards. Not a great photo though.

You're right Cookie. It looks like a Cali 2 frame lowers with an odd seat and rear grab rail. Its an '81 that's been all to pieces and back together again at least once so I guess some extra bits have got in there or been swapped out for better alternatives at the time.

Speaking to the owner later all being well.

Just to throw a spin ball, there’s a guy on eBay item number 274330874970, who seems to have a couple of quota’s for sale. Nothing to do with me other than watching them on the auction
