Rumours within the trucking industry suggest that P&O are in serious financial difficulty. One of their freight ships the Norbay has been "detained" in Liverpool by Peel Ports over unpaid docking fees of £600,000.
P&O dispute the figures but their ships berthed in Dublin have not been servicing the Liverpool route for several days now and the company are reportedly looking at using another port in the northwest.
The alternative port might well be Mostyn as they used to sail into there many years ago. It is unlikely to be Heysham as that port already operates pretty much at full capacity. Live runners which would usually take the Dub-Liv route are being diverted to Holyhead on Irish Ferries and Srena.
