The Motorcyclist's Guide to Scotland book - J.G. Fergusson

Spot on, it's Glen Lyon. Open Street Map shows the gates. To be fair to the author he does say:

The bracketed exclamation mark is his.

I'm planning a little trundle thru Glen Lyon on Wednesday, got a little wild camping spot I need to check out.

Next to the Angus Glens. For some unknown reason I have heard of Glen Clova and Edzell, though I have no idea in what context. I am also learning where Arbroath *, Montrose and Forfar (famous from the football results) are.

* I am a big fan of their finest product.

The views with from Street View or just in photographs on Google, makes it look like a great spot. I have seen bits of the country that I never knew existed, that's for sure.

I really dislike the GlenLyon road heading out of Glen Lyon itself only use it as we often come over Ben Lawyers to the old post office for the finest scones in the world ever

Dont know why but i just dont like it maybe something to do with the deliver vans and posties that drive it like its a rally stage and just appear from no where

Actually thats why i dont like it there is rarely a good view of risks hazzards etc

It used to be a lot better than it is nowadays. It was one of those hidden gems not many knew about, now you've got Englishmen drawing up routes for all to see on motorcycle forums :blast

Joking aside, it has become so much busier as each year passes when back in the day it felt like you were the only one who knew about it.

Thanks for the heads up Wapping one on order. Handy as friend has a place on the Isle of Whithorn good place to start .

Angus Glens is all a bit uninspiring tbh, certainly wouldn't add it to any tour if I was coming from south, I do take the odd poddle round the Glenisla/Blacklunnans area but further east is quite dull.

Surprised he didn't add the Tullymurdoch road just east of Bridge of Cally, cracking road I visit regularly, even in lock down.

The glitch with the bridge is odd. I notice on Open Street Map that there is a line running down the middle of the river, which may be some sort of county or district boundary. Possibly two different agencies supply map data, which then don’t join up exactly. Or many it’s just a blue line? I’ll report the glitch to OSM, to see what they say.

At least he got the road between Logierait and Pitlochry in.

As before, the book doesn’t claim to be the the 30 best’est roads over the kingdom of Scotland. If you (or anyone else) let me have your best’est roads, either in:

A. gps format

B. A Google map version

C. A written description, sufficient that I can work out where the road goes, I’ll gladly create a suitably credited gpx file of them all to share here.

Thank you.

I'm trying to add some experience to the roads for those who may wish take to them. It's all good posting the stuff you have and has been seen much appreciated, all I'm doing is adding some flavour.

I wouldn't know how to add these versions so this is the best I can do for the Tullymurdoch rd.

I did it from Coupar Angus as your route starts from Perth so no point in starting there.

Thank you. Anything added to the overall Scottish routes is always welcome.

Should your Google route look like this or has my iPad done something odd to it?

Can I throw into the mix
For anyone heading up that way to come off the M9 at the Knockhill turn off which is J4 and head over to Auchterader then Crieff and then to Dunkeld

Its a great route and saves time on the M9 /A9
