I’m looking for a charger that can plug in to a USB/DIN outlet on the bike that then has multiple charging points at the other end. The reason is, I want to be able to charge more than just my phone when I’m touring. I’ll have the phone an IPad, a power bank and spare batteries for a drone. I’ve looked on Amazon and there are suitable candidates but, they advise against modifying them IE removing the car cig charger and replacing it with a DIN type. Does anyone have any experience or knows of such a device.

Many thanks.

Surely a single USB and cable linked to a power bank of sufficient capacity, would do the job?

I want the power bank to charge the helmet at the end of the day and need other power outlets to simultaneously charge other devices. I doubt a power bank will carry enough juice to charge drone batteries fully. I’ll speak to my power and drone specialist to see whether I’m right or wrong.

I’m thinking you need something that connects up to the 12v socket and then has a few usb charging points. I’m not so sure about a usb outlet. It might struggle to supply enough juice to all your devices. JJH

Ah-right. You need a Car charge plug/usb charging station where the voltage is dropped to 5V inside the charge unit. Then - chop the car plug and fit a Hella plug.

I bought one several years ago.5-outlet

Keep in mind that a drone battery will take sig more charging than your other units.

I suspect that this one feeds 12v into the charger unit, and is reduced to 5V there.

Get a hella plug on Amazon or EBay

This is the solution I was thinking of but, having read some FAQ’s someone was planning a similar thing. The response from the vendor was “do not modify the product”. This put me off a bit and so I asked the question as to whether anyone knows of a plug and play solution that is already on the market. If there isn’t, I’ll go ahead and carry out the mod and add an inline fuse for safety. Touracheat et al are missing trick here me thinks.

Can't you get a lighter socket usb adapter, plug a lead in to the power pack then use the outlets from that to charge your other stuff?

Your going to sson overload the socket if there are several devices all charging at once even with only 1 to 2 amps to each.

just plug the power pack in the socket, plug other stuff in the power pack.

Plug them all in to charge at the hotel. Hotels do have electricity you know. If camping, leave them at home.

Hotels? I’m going touring on a GS not a Fireblade. An element of adventure, if only in spirit, is prerequisite if you’re going to ride an adventure motorcycle no? Having completed tours in numerous countries in my youth, I only have fading memories and blurred photos as evidence I was there. Modern technology allows us to capture our tours like never before, I’ll be taking it all with me, if I have to plug them in to the campsite hand dryer.

I intend to run an inline fuse and do some tests to see if the DIN port and circuit are up to it. A suitably low amp fuse will prevent any damage to the circuit.

power pack that has multiple USB charging ports?

Most of them actually.

In the past, when doing trackdays riding to the track, I used the socket on the bike to recharge my GoPro between sessions, sometimes the phone.

Hella to cigarette lighter socket adapter and then I have an USB charger with two sockets.
I still generally carry it around when traveling in my tool roll:

I now use a powerbank generally. It can charge multiple things at once:

For the drone (not sure what battery capacity yours has) and other gizmos there are ranges of professional powerbanks (for photographers, etc) but significantly heavier and bigger.

Optimate do a unit that plugs into the 12v socket giving you 2 USB outputs. A pal uses a battery charger fly lead to a cig lighter socket and charges 2 items off the USB gismo and a 3rd (usually a big battery bank) off the cig lighter.

I’ve got the Optimate two port USB adapter but, I will need further ports. Having done further research today, I’m lead to believe that the O/E DIN port on the GSA is only rated for 5 amps output. That won’t be enough for my needs so, my new intention is to directly wire another port somewhere around the seat area that will draw directly from the battery. This will also come in handy if I need to use a pump as 5 amps won’t cut it. Great brain storming session though. Thanks everyone.

I use an SAE lead direct from battery that pops out on right hand side just below the tank & front of seat. I then have a double ended SAE cable from the live feed up to a Powerlet SAE socket fitted to the wall of my tank bag. On the inside of the tank bag is a SAE to a single USB socket, but I know they're also available with multi USB ports.

Here's some pics.
