1981 G/S makeover.

mmmm rhubard and aluminium oxide crumble :D

You're not the first to make that comment, Gordon! :D It'll be a ceramic or glass dish next time. I was brought up in a house with lead pipes so a wee bit of Al2O3 isn't gonna make a hell of a lot of difference! Hmmmm. Now where did I put that ...

Update no 6

Not a bad day in the office...the wiring is on, binnacle fitted. Just realised that I don’t have an ignition switch, so if anyone has a spare.....

Not really and update but just to say it’s still happening. Work has got in the way of progress, which I think is now sorted. I managed to collect up the last few bits last week. The most important was the rear sub frame, that’s now off to the coaters. I also managed to get a replacement side stand all re plated and like new from GB.
I’m off to the Ardennes, Black Forest, Lake Constance next week, so Mikeyboy has promised the engine, gearbox and bevel will be ready when I get back on the 24th ish.
Then it’s the big push to get it done.

A bit of shopping in Germany

I have admit, even though I have the G/S rebuild going on, I couldn’t resist this one. Collected it on the way back on Monday. One owner from new, 29,000kms all completely original.
This is an April 87 bike so getting close to the end of the G/S run. I was looking for the Touareg blue, but this is its sister Henna red. The red / orange seat is standard, not to sure about it at the moment.
I’m off to Mikey's tomorrow to pick up all of the bits got the rebuild bike, so that will be the focus while I get the red bike registered.

I was lucky to see this bike and Colin’s other works of art today. :bow

Those ‘original’ Metzlers are brand new.

The build is looking good too.

Great work C :thumby:

So there's two now! How will we keep up?

We Q about summat you said earlier ... " ... the wiring ...". Is it a new harness? If so, what's the source, please?

Update....

Collected most of the stuff from Mikeyboy this morning. Also collected the powder coated replacement rear sub frame.
So the plan was to get the rear end fitted, but quickly realised that the gasket isn’t in the kit.
Engine swinging arm and rear shock all fitted. Sorted the front brake line and faffed with the electrics.
Slow and steady.

Everything tales for ever

It’s slow progress, everything I pick up needs fettling, fitting removing and refitting. It’s all part of the fun. Yes I know I have fitted the fork gaiters upside down

That is stunning. I had a Tuareg Blue final edition G/S - bought it with 20K miles in 2000 for £900. Regret selling it on a regular basis! Good luck with the project. Following with interest.

I've been following this thread and until now, I've thought Tetley is a wizard like Mickeyboy. Not now though. I'm pretty sure that is a fork gaiter and you've put it in the wrong place :blast.
