I bought this G/S from a member, the bike was rough as, but was complete less the obviously missing parts.
Once I got it home I discovered the following;
Good points....Original Tuareg blue side panels, new seat, original exhaust in good nick, original BMW Leather tool bag.
Bad bits.....no front headlight, instruments, binicle. No front wheel bearings, bent front forks, rear gearbox casing damaged, wiring loom butchered beyond repair. No crash bars or side stand, rear rack beyond repair.
So no real surprises other than the bent forks and wiring loom.
Let the games begin.......

"I thpothe you think thath ffunny!" Those forks are well bent! Interesting instrument binnacle too!

Update us all (with pictures.... we like pictures) as the work progresses.
I don’t think it will take you too long to have that on the road.

Hope there’s no nasty surprises.

Bubb

Binacles and clocks can be got I bought an Indian replica for mine but will run my GPS for comparisons (If I ever get the fecker finished)

Headlights are a bit more difficult

Check the frame plates behind the head stock if they are bowed the frame may need a pull

Last one I saw with a front end like that was Electric Monks R100GS He ran into the back of a Previa after it braked hard and swerved off the road into ditch

Fair play to him though as he managed to hit it squarely at 90 Degrees and it was a straight back bend of the frame and the forks were fine Maybe as they were fully compressed

Good luck with the Build

Is that a clap’ometer as used on opportunity knocks?

Engine paint looks a bit scabby, does the frame need repainting?

Good luck with finding the parts and look forward to seeing the progress.

Good luck, looks like a good project.

1. What on earth IS that multi coloured rainbow thing on the dash?
2 What on earth is going on with those fork tops. What are those plates for?

Great find Tetley, that’ll be a belter when it’s finished.

I am intrigued by the dash ...

Instruments

So this is what was on there. It was all a bit messy, 12v outlets and ignition on the side. I thought the button on the dash was some kind of cool starter, but no just a rubber bung. On the plus side the PCB behind the dash is OK.

I've got a spare fork leg if your interested.

By the way it's no where near as bad as mine was when I first bought it.

Original headlights can still be found at your local BMW dealerships as Germany still has some in stock..... and they do the rubber seal to go round the headlight to keep the water out.
I don’t think any of the front binacle parts are unobtainable....yet.

Good luck with the restoration/rebuild.
Hope the frame is straight, and the forks took all the blow.

Thanks to all for the offer of parts, so far I’m ok with the exception of a rear sub frame. The one that’s on there is ok, but not perfect. So if anyone has a spare I would be grateful.

Update no1

Well one thing leads to another, I’ve gone all in. The bike is now in bits. The engine, gearbox, and rear drive are all with Mikeyboy. The rest will be distributed for painting, repairs, etc.
I allowed £350 to replace the complete headlight set up. The biggest shock was the price of the headlight only. £296 for the original Bosch H4 from BMW.

So spend so far on the missing bits around the headlight ....
Headlight copy. £39.90
Cover. £14.34
Carrier. £42.49
Screws. £2.76
Rubber gasket. £6.61
Indicator stalk x 2. £44.43
Indicators. X2. £39.60
Headlight housing. €118
Mounting brackets. £32.40
Fitting kit. £41.69
Dash indicator lights. €59.00
Ignition light cover. €27.40
Top yoke (original was buggered) £65.50
Speedo. Don’t even ask.....

So £329.63 + €204.40

Ah, so a bit more than a ‘makeover’ then!

I wonder what it ran into ?

...and how hard ??

Long time since I have visibly seen forks like that (not since 1979’s Jap bikes)
