Bit of polish needed

Mike, I’m still looking for the original toolbox and toolkit. I’ve got them somewhere and going through stuff when I’ve time. Problem is I keep finding other stuff that’s sliding me up as I then make a note and then re-store them for “safe” keeping because they’ll be useful one day .

Sounds like your a pack rat to me :D

I always promised my old mom I’d buy her a bond bug! That was about 35 years ago now! :blast

There’s still hope. She’s only 80. :D

I recon the bike has hit a kerb at some point in its past life.
Hence the damaged body work and tank.
The front rim has a big old dent in it,and the yoke is twisted with a broken lockstop.
The fork stanchions are straight but need rechroming.
We’ll come back to this in a bit:augie

Time for a nosey at the engine,
Having stripped the valvegear off and the heads and barrels,it certainly looks like the 15k recorded miles are about right.
Apart from one broken bolt on the front cover all is good.

Going back to the apparent mishap this bike had back in the past.
It must have been running on its side as the LH big end has gone.
Luckily,it’s not damaged the crank or conrod.
RH is fine .

Ordinarily on an old shitter I’d normally just cut the duplex timing chain with an angle grinder,
But at this low mileage I’ll reuse it.
So ,the crank and camshaft have to come out together.

Over the last week I’ve been pulling bits off and assessing what’s needed ,
Today I had a few hours and have pretty much worked out what parts are required and made a few decisions.
I’m going to remove the main bearings and aqua blast the crank case.
Due to the big end failure, the block will require a deep internal clean anyway so blasting will give me the finish I want.
I’m going to replace the original barrels with 1000cc ones rebored with new pistons.
The bike is to be used two up mostly so the extra torque will be welcomed.
I’ll rework the squish’s on the heads to suit.
I’m also going to convert the front brake to twin discs as the single disc will be a bit feeble when loaded with pillion/luggage.:thumb
