Side Stand - has anybody broken one over time?

Probably better to clamber aboard when it's on the centrestand but saying that, if I was feeling particularly weak and the panniers were on the bike then I would occasionally get on with the sidestand down. I expect I'm heavier than most on this site and it didn't do mine any harm.:nenau

I know you mean well - but if I “clamber aboard when it’s on the centre stand” then both my feet are dangling about a foot away from the ground - what am I mean to do then?!?

Rock it off the stand as you drop the clutch, hi ho silver.

Those of us with aftermarket hip joints don’t have the range of movement we need to mount conventionally so have to use the sidestand technique. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. I do keep a close eye on the lateral movement at the pivot and I found a good spare to keep in the garage “just in case”.
