My recent purchase was a 2003 gsa with y piece and standard exhaust, when out for a ride the bike backfired quite a lot after throttle back it was more pronounced in 4th gear

I have no idea if it has been mapped or chipped or anything like that.

Do injectors leak when they should be shut off? Putting fuel in when no spark so ignite in the exhaust? Or is it something else?

So a) will it do any damage long term

Or b) does it need sorting?

Might be an air leak in the exhaust. Only a problem if it's pre-lambda sensor, I think.

Mine has a Laser Duotech system (with baffles in :) ) and often pops & bangs a bit on the over-run. I quite enjoy it :green gri

My last one did it but it had an akropovic on so kind of expected it - good to know that’s is normal

Just as an update to the thread, my lower right plug was blackened and all the others were fine - replaced all 4 and didn’t backfire once
