Hi People

The kickstart on my newly purchased g/s sticks out. I thought I could reposition it or leave it off. But I'm having difficulty in removing the cotter pin. I've tried penetrating oil, moderate heat, tapping, no luck. Any ideas, some sort of press maybe.

Cheers Martin

Some stick out, some don't. I'd leave it unless it's a big problem.

If you bung up a picture (best to subscribe) we'll be able to see if the cotter pin has been put in the right way around. This can be a common error.

What about pressing it out, leave the nut partially on , a small socket over the other end and use a G cramp ?

This .... but it'll be tight and on a taper. Tighten up on the G clamp, you'll not press it out with that, but once got some pressure on a sharp tap with a hammer and it will fly out :thumb

You'll not be able to reposition the kickstart on the shaft anyway!

Thanks for your replies, the pin has finally succumbed. As a Bradford based BMW man said "your idea of hitting it hard and mine are very different".
Combination of WD40, heat on the lever and a big hammer.
