Got the green light....Thunderbirds are go!!!

Hotel du Lac, Lieu dit Labarre, Foix, 09000, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); nice balcony with river view; parking under cover for the bikes; owner is a biker; staff superb; bar, terrace & restaurant; food lovely; wi-fi good
Bad: Nothing from me

Pleased to hear its still as good as when I stayed there a few years back...

Looks like you had a tremendous trip. Great roads, good food and a few beers with the added bonus of nice weather. I wish I could have come along! :)

If you are in that neck of the woods again, Collioure near Argeles sur Mer is absolutely lovely. Good roads on that coast too.

Any chance you could post a map of your route? Or maybe I missed it?

Thanks for sharing your trip though - great reading.

Crikey, that seemed to go quickly, hopefully all back safe chaps and thanks for the report.

It was really good.

As for a map; no, don't have one.

I did produce a daily list of way points as a guide & sent this to Rich.

Each day, we would use the trip planner app on the Garmin XT, input some of the way points (the last one being our digs that day), then select one of the adventurous routing settings (the XT has 4 settings: none / mild / medium / max).

Pressed start & away we went...the majority of the time it worked really well; a couple of time we did have slightly different routes, but nothing major to upset the ride each day.

So...following another brilliant euro week away with Rich (thanks mate :kissy2), here's a summary (my opinion only) of the hotels we stayed at which others might find useful (Rich will no doubt share his views):

Hotel du Parc Saumur Logis Elegance, 169 Avenue des Fusillés, 49400 Saumur, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); air conditioning; bar, terrace & restaurant; food; staff were excellent; facilities; large car park; wi-fi
Bad: Poor water pressure in shower I’d agree with that, but didn’t notice the water pressure in the shower, as I was just happy to be there after nearly running out of petrol!

Auberge Etchionia, Place du Fronton, Le Bourg 64220 Lasse, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); air conditioning; food & beer; staff; ate outside which was pleasant; quiet location
Bad: Wi-fi not the best; small car park but ideal for 3 bikes
The WiFi was fast enough for porn. That’s good enough for me. :D

Hotel Le Picors, 6 Rue de Picors, 65400, Aucun, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); staff friendly; large car park (garage was available); wi-fi; booked standard dinner menu which was fine & food nice
Bad: No air conditioning in the rooms; beer expensive (but nice)
If you drank more, you wouldn’t have noticed the lack of air conditioning :D

Parador de Vielha, Carretera Del Tunel, 25530, Vielha, Spain
Good: Posh hotel; bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); air conditioning; nice balcony with mountain view; secure under cover parking; wi-fi; beer; facilities
Bad: Food average
Spanish food is shit, so that was to be expected :p

Hotel du Lac, Lieu dit Labarre, Foix, 09000, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); nice balcony with river view; parking under cover for the bikes; owner is a biker; staff superb; bar, terrace & restaurant; food lovely; wi-fi good

One of my favourites

Logis Hostellerie Saint Jacques, Le Bourg, 24470, France
Good: Quirky hotel; bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); terrace, restaurant & gardens; food nice;
Bad: Breakfast & beer expensive; wi-fi poor; car park is a gravel trap - we parked on the main road opposite the hotel; my air conditioning did work but was a bit slow This was my favourite. Thanks for letting me explore the gravel car park down the hill!

Logis Hotel Arbor Auberge de Mulsanne, D338 Route de Tours, 72230, Mulsanne, France
Good: Bedroom & bathroom (with shower gel/shampoo); large secure car park; pool; bar & restaurant; food nice; staff friendly-ish; location on the 24h road circuit
Bad: Beer expensive (but nice); no air conditioning I liked this place. The waitress had potential, until she took her mask off! Air con would have been good, especially given the location

We did well on the hotels this year overall, and you really can’t go wrong with a Logis. :thumb

For us, this is the best way of doing things. I’ve no desire to sit in front of a computer for days planning a trip, only to discover road closures/ resurfacing etc on the trip.

Is that brown sauce on a salad?
