From your rear view mirror yes a great picture... but if you came up behind them as the trundled along, what a friggin pain...

Hypothetically if you ( on your bike) did catch a group up like this, would you start overtaking bit by bit

Do you think they’d expect to be seen a a single moving entity/vehicle and be upset if you did :D

Many years ago on the way to a Llangollen do (Tarka was organising a rideout ) I came across a similarly large group and did indeed start overtaking them ... I got close to the front end just as we arrived at a roundabout and was really surprised to see the Road Captain ahead “park” himself on the roundabout and block the traffic to allow the group to stay together :blast. That was my opportunity to whip past the rest of the group , stuffed up the inside of them on the roundabout and then pinned it to put some distance between us. The Mrs on the back said some of them were not best pleased :p

I didn't see that many all together, but I did come up behind a few on the Snake Pass on my GS, and as I got close, they moved to one side, and started to wave me past them..

I can't see the pleasure in riding with so many, so close and so slow. It looks like an accident looking for somewhere to happen.

This is just the sort of ride-out that needs to be discouraged - last month 3 dead 9 serious after a DUI took out a whole group over in the States. Then many more lost their lives riding with a group of US Marine Corps earlier in the year, when an SUV crossed the line on a curve. This is for ride parades under controlled circumstances; it's plain madness out on the open road & extremely annoying/frustrating for other road users.

Used to be things like Easter Egg runs in Aberdeen, we would get large numbers of bikes, and there would always be a car that could not wait, and get itself all stuffed up in the middle of the bikes even in the days when we did get a police escort.

:blast

Given your username, I assume you were that car driver ?

As I was heading in to Braemar yesterday there was a crowd of Harley's and a few other cruiser types heading out and can tell you now, the front 6 or 7 bikes were certainly not moving slowly, in fact they were honking on.

I agree , only time I’ve done something similar was when I did the Wirral Egg Run twice . I did it for charity with the Mrs and for the craic with some mates before and after . You don’t do it for the riding pleasure.

Imagine the bikes at the front having to do an emergency stop. Carnage.

I took part in on of those HOC rides in Oman. I was third from the back when on a slippery cloverleaf onto a flyover, the bike in front fishtailed and went down. Thankfully I managed to get stopped by veering off to the edge, ending up looking over the parapet. The two bikes behind me had to go to the other side of the road.

Never again.

I’ve done a couple of Distinguished Gentleman’s Rides which are fun and do have some organizers controlling the ride to an extent, but you really do need to keep your eyes on everyone around you in such a large group

Bastards, don't you hate it when expectations are overturned?
