Rain repellant for screens and visors

Normal Rain X inside and out. Works fine.

I suspect the plastic-friendly version is to lever a few extra quid from gullible wealthy motorcyclists.

According to a mate that runs http://www.k2a.co.uk/ the original Rain X has solvents in it that will cause crazing of the visor material. He uses the plastic version for the stuff they make such as outdoor display material

You can see the safety data sheets here https://www.rainx.com/safety-data-sheets/

Regular uses 7% acetone as a solvent with water and is classed as level 3 hazardous as it is flammable. Plastic safe uses propylene glycol in water as solvents and is not considered hazardous.

Cheers guys, I'll look at getting a bottle of each of the Rain X products next time I'm passing Halfords :beerjug:

According to me it works fine, used it for years.

there's not a lot of external validity with your sample size. I think k2a might have a larger scale study from which to draw conclusions.

Petrol & acetone, are wonderful products on plastics

Depending on what plastic they come into contact with, the effects can be nothing, to total destruction

i suspect RX are just covering themselves by developing a new version that is all plastics friendly, and one that isn't

Probably all down to our wonderful litigious society where its never the fault of the person who was daft enough to melt a visor

or mirror, because they didn't read the warning label or list of exclusions.

The problem with putting RainX on a visor in the summer is you need to clean the bugs off every 20 minutes, so I can't see there being any left on for when the rain inevitably arrives!

on my XR, the bugs are all on the bike - this is the reason I bought the Rain X (plastic friendly) as there is very little airflow into my visor so the slippery surface helps the rain run off
