Hi folks,

I've just kicked off a new business in the hope of staying out of the rat race and away from another desk job for a while longer at least... ;)

For a while now I've been working with a colleague cleaning and detailing motorbikes for clients all over Ireland - with that in mind I'm now offering a similar service specifically for cyclists. You can find more info and examples of the work I've done so far at https://www.facebook.com/BeSpokeBikeCare and there are more before and after pics on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/bespoke.bikecare/. Give me a call / WhatsApp message on 087 2427742 to book in a bike. The cost of the full treatment is normally €80 but with the GSer discount applied - it's €70 :thumb2. Below is some info on what's involved...and I've attached a few pics to show the level of detail I go to....

BeSpoke Bike Care is Ireland’s first company to specialise in ceramic coating and detailing of bikes specifically for cyclists - including road riders, mountain bikers, commuters and leisure cyclists. This service involves deep cleaning the whole bike and then applying a protective ceramic coating to the frame, forks, hubs, seatpost and stem.

What does deep cleaning a bicycle involve?

  • The drivetrain is fully degreased and cleaned- this includes derailleurs, jockey wheels, chain, cassette and sprockets.
  • All brake components such as calipers and discs are cleaned and checked.
  • Wheels are removed, hubs, spokes and rims are cleaned and inspected.
  • All accessories such as bottle cages, mini pumps, GPS mounts, etc. are removed from the bike.
  • The entire frame is thoroughly cleaned using bike-specific cleaning products.
  • Everything is first towel dried and then blow dried to remove any lingering moisture on the bike.

Once the deep clean is complete, all contaminants are removed from the bicycle and it is now ready to have the ceramic coating applied.

What exactly is ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating is like a liquid glass that, once applied to the bike, hardens and leaves a protective layer on the bike. The ceramic coating is applied by hand to all frame tubes, front forks, bottom bracket area, wheel hubs, seatpost and stem.
The benefits of ceramic coating:

  • 9H Hardness – the coating bonds to the bikes paintwork and provides a tough protective layer to help prevent scratching, staining and scuffing.
  • Long lasting – ceramic coating lasts at least 12 months, much longer than waxes or polishes.
  • Deep rich gloss finish brings out the best in the bike’s paintwork.
  • Hydrophobic – due to the smooth finish water simply beads and runs off, this reduces the amount of dirt that accumulates on the bike when out riding and also makes the cleaning process much easier after a ride.
  • UV protection reduces the fading effect of sunlight on the paintwork.

The finishing touches

Once the ceramic coating has been applied, cured and buffed down, a finishing polish is then applied to give the frame an extra shine. The wheels and all accessories are then refitted to the bike. Lastly, the chain is re-lubed, brake pivots, pedals and controls are also lubricated.

Thanks for all the good words folks! Hopefully it goes well. As far as I can tell, there's no one else here doing something like this for bicycles. Plenty of car detailing and coating around but not for the humble rothar, so hopefully I can convince folks of the benefits. Anything to avoid the 9 to 5 rat race! :p

@Gerry, false teeth are already packed! :p

@Keith, I'm going to look into ceramic coating motorbikes as well - quite a bit more involved due to the extra acreage and the many nooks and crannys to cope with! In the meantime I highly recommend you check out Motorcycling Valeting Dublin for a detail and ACF-50 treatment for the new bike. You might even bump into someone ye know! :thumb

Cheers,
Seán.

Ooh interesting, a great idea, I’d say you will do well given the explosion in cycling. I might have to treat my and the missus’ bikes. I promise they aren’t as bad as the gs was when I had it cleaned last. Was glowingly referred to as a ‘challenge!’. :D:D

For what you offer, that seems like a very decent price.

Social media is so powerful now, all you need is a few glowing reports and I am sure you'll have a stream of customers, esp in coming months as a winterisation strategy.

Best of luck with the new venture Sean, I love the name for the new business :thumb2

Cheers lads! Hopefully word of mouth via social media will spread the word... :thumb2

The company name took a wee while to come up with, but we got there eventually. Have a graphic design chap working on the logo for me...looking forward to seeing the results.
