It's a part of Europe and I haven't visited much before and after reading Christopher Clarke's excellent book recently decided that I would give it a whirl.

With rumours that France was to go on the non exemption list of travel corridor destinations I thought I'd try and be clever and change my Tunnel crossing to the Hook of Holland Ferry as the Netherlands would be ok wouldn't it?

Big mistake.

Anyway I booked a return Ferry ticket and headed off to the Harwich boat.

There was a Dutch guy who had just finished a lap of the UK on his bike and was heading home so we hooked up for a few socially isolated beers in the bar.

I booked a nice little Hotel in Stralsund for the first night and headed in that general direction.

Up and out early the next morning and despite the rising temperatures the Baltic Coast was cool and beautiful.

I bought that old Fatboy back in March so unfortunately didn’t really need two heavy Harley shire horses in the stable so it had to go.

I next visited Peenemunde further down the coast and most will know it was the site chosen by Nazi Germany to develop the first V weapons. Wernher Von Braun lead the development team and later worked on the Saturn Rockets that took man to the moon.

The Museum housed in the old Power Station tells the story of the place and the whole complex is only 9 euro's to enter and well worth it if your interested in military history and are in the area.

It's certainly beautiful and the weather was glorious whilst I was there.

Riding further down the Island I crossed the Polish border and then bordered the little Ferry that takes you into the Wolinski National Park.

An interesting trip, if you wouldn't mind, perhaps you could PM me the hotels you stayed at, the ones you would recommend. Once Covid-19 is less of a problem it's trip i would like to do. Thank you in advance.

Excellent trip, I was in that area last summer and loved Peenemunde and indeed the whole Baltic coast. Also loved Bavaria and I'm torn between the two for next year.

In Koszalin I stayed at the Hudson Hotel which was modern and very nice because the room had air conditioning.

A bit of info about Poland.

Some roads are great but then can turn to shite very quickly. Food, accommodation and beer very cheap. In Koszalin I found a nice little Italian restaurant and had a gorgeous risotto plus three large beers for 50 Zloty (about £10). Standards of driving can be variable from sensible to full on mental maniacs

Your riding down a quiet country rode and exiting a nice bend only to find some tool doing a blind overtake to get past a tractor and coming for you head on! As with most of Eastern Europe you have to tune yourself in and it can become enjoyable... well sort of.

My next destination was Malbork as I wanted to see the impressive Castle there.

I found this Hotel near the City Centre. One night plus breakfast about 150 Zloty (£30).

It was severely damaged at the end of WW2 but since rebuilt to it's former glory.

The area is full of historic and interesting medieval buildings... you just need more time to see it all.
