Looks a nice place to visit:thumb:thumb

Got a bit of time on your hands, dunce? :Aurelius

How very true... :(

I had a few beers at the Castle and wondered back to the Hotel. When I arrived I noticed some scruffy looking flats at the rear behind the car park and thought I'd have a quick look and take a couple of arty style photos just to show how the poor people live.

One of the residents saw me and came out shouting something like "Make sure you use Classic Chrome to give them pics a 1960s vibe!" :nenau or most likely "Fuck off taking pictures of where I live you twat"

I waved politely and retreated back to the Hotel. :p

Heading for Home and 14 days in self quarantine....

I knew it was going to happen despite trying to kid myself that I could stay right on the German border on the last night and then head straight to the Hook when the time came without stopping but in reality knew that parking up to get on a Ferry (and being on the Ferry) whilst in the Netherlands would probably mean contact with other people and constitute a stopover. :(

Never mind. I headed back to Germany and to a nice town called Gustrow which has a huge Palace and is apparently a marvel of Renaissance architecture.

Once over the border I used the empty and unrestricted East German autobahns which was fun. :thumb2

My Hotel was just opposite the Palace.

Unfortunately it was closed for renovation so wandered into the town for food and beer.

I know a few folks who would be comfortable working here. :D

Gustrow was a cool town.

So while there was a glimmer of hope of not having to quarantine I planned to stay as close to the Dutch border as possible and booked a hotel in Kleve Germany which is about an hour and a half from the Hook.

Heading through North West Germany the weather was hot but cooler along the tree lined roads.

Storms over Kleve but arrived just before the thunder and rain started. :thumb2

Sat in a MaccyD the next morning for a while so as not to get to the Hook too early.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/151886996@N06/50241042582/in/dateposted-public/" title="2EF32857-80CF-4A79-BD5C-5614AD9BE3A2"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50241042582_e754042d44_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="2EF32857-80CF-4A79-BD5C-5614AD9BE3A2"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Crossed the Leper Colony without fuss and arrived at the Hook only to discover that no flesh eating zombies were waiting to board the boat with me. :p

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/151886996@N06/50240185573/in/dateposted-public/" title="7098EB70-6D2E-4A96-8C6F-3A4B991CD9FD"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50240185573_68ee8f9d88_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="7098EB70-6D2E-4A96-8C6F-3A4B991CD9FD"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Once on the Boat there appeared to be a bit of trouble ahead.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/151886996@N06/50240189783/in/dateposted-public/" title="A3FF3EC0-5F55-4794-A317-8676824B9159"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50240189783_0fa5c5778a_c.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="A3FF3EC0-5F55-4794-A317-8676824B9159"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And fair enough the tannoy announcement duly arrived confirming that everyone on the Boat will need to self isolate for 14 days on arrival in the UK. :(

Luckily Heisenberg from Breaking Bad was on board to hand out the Crystal Meth... :bow

Every cloud does have a silver lining! :D

I next visited Peenemunde further down the coast and most will know it was the site chosen by Nazi Germany to develop the first V weapons. Wernher Von Braun lead the development team and later worked on the Saturn Rockets that took man to the moon.

The Museum housed in the old Power Station tells the story of the place and the whole complex is only 9 euro's to enter and well worth it if your interested in military history and are in the area.

If you like reading novels that depict the story quite accurately, James Michener "Space " is highly recommended re Werner von Braun and the race

There is a loophole for not needing to quarantine at the moment if you use the tunnel. https://www.facebook.com/notes/british-embassy-paris/covid-19-update-transit-stops/3606924719365897/
Not sure how long that will be for but I was also planning a trip to Germany in November. Thanks for the pics.

That’s a good link and like I said earlier my mistake was switching from the Tunnel to the Hook Ferry. :blast

As things currently stand you could still go to Germany via the Tunnel just don’t stop and have contact with anyone in France.
