Dumfries and Galloway roads.

Glenwhiske bistro, in Moniaive, is worth a meal stop or two.
IIRC they had a waitress who’s shit many would have brushed their teeth with...

Don’t tell everyone !
I have been riding these roads for years and told no one !!

If I go in to the Galloway forest am I going to get lost ? Like I'm not going to have to call out the MRT or anything am I :blast

I attended all of the Galloway trips that AustinW organised - his thoughts and words on the area are ones that I'd follow :bow

For me, the Newton Stewart to New Galloway road is an ace ride - the A712.

As for getting lost in the forest off piste - yes it can be done, but even I've managed to find my way out - went wild camping in there on my way to Ireland several years ago :thumby:

Went down from Selkirk on Tuesday - Selkirk, Moffat, Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet, Wigtown, Girvan, Newton Stewart, Elvanfoot and back down to Moffat for an overnight.

Great day out, and great dinner at Mario's in Moffat.:thumb

Can also recommend Hazel Bank Guest House, at the top end of the main street.

Phone up Ruth direct, to book. Immaculate guest house, and a fantastic cooked breakfast in the morning. (there is even a wee carafe of sherry in the room on arrival :jager )

Was out there today it was awesome perfect weather.
Just watch out for the camper vans they are everywhere.

We have just come back, we rode some of D & G, very enjoyable, but the better roads were further up in my opinion. Solway Firth is very beautiful.

Happy to send the routes we took.

I will try and do a RR and put it on here.

I’ve wakened up to worse Saturday mornings.

With a good weather forecast on Friday, I made a late decision to head SW.

My well used Booking DotCom found me a cheap bunk in Sandend, a place we stopped in once upon a time while lodging down that way for short break.

Only a nasty wee sunny shower around 5pm dampened the roads for while, but provided one of the biggest and best ever rainbows.

A nice room. Nice food. Nice beer. What’s not to like.

Had to visit the lighthouse. And cafe. Then headed for the forest road to Straiton.

Even the main road past Cairnryan was quiet and very enjoyable.

I shouldn’t advertise it :) but the A714 and the road from Straiton to Cumnock are now on my list of favourites.

The A702 down the valley has been on the list for years of course.

ps - this week’s forecast is dismal
