Can anybody recommend a good independent guy in the above area ?
Having just done my first proper trip on RKS, I’ve decided to change the bars .
I did get used to the OE (9 inch ? ) bars over my 2000 trip but could do with something a tad closer as my Le Pera seat has moved me back 2 inches .
The riding position is ok, but I think could be improved.
I’m happy to use HD Cheltenham but just thought there may be someone a tad cheaper who would take more care fitting new bars/ extending cabling/wiring etc ?
Ta.

Not sure about the rks, but I know on the current softails the wiring is simplified such that it's got a junction in the loom near the headstock. When you change bars you replace the wiring on the bars and plug it into the loom rather than having to cut/splice in new wiring.

More expensive for parts but significantly less labour.

I've seen a handy Harley document that lists exactly which parts are required for each sets of bars on each bike. Might be worth having a Google

Northants V Twin.... 01604 588006 - I've known Dave for many years and he's always done great work on my various H-D's.

Thanks guys.Bars might be a few weeks at least but I’ll give him a buzz.

Edited to add-top blokes.Going to get my bits ordered and get back to them when I have what I need.

Thanks again.

I’ve a good guy on the South Coast Near Portsmouth if you get stuck...

I've heard very good reports of this chap at Tewkesbury. https://www.bodscustomcycles.com/

I've had no call to use him yet but will when out of warranty.

TBH, you might want to give the bar swap a go yourself, it's not too onerous a job if you have the time. John Maxwell has some good tips on youtube. I tried his tip on using a guide wire and an air compressor and it worked a treat. :thumb2

Second city customs in Bromsgrove. Probably the best there is.

If you have to change brake lines, make sure, whoever you use has got the correct software to sort out the ABS after bleeding.

Steve at Northants V Twin certainly knew his stuff when I called them but I’ll bare this in mind as well X

I’m thinking of 14” Burleigh bars, comme ca :

Not as wide as some apes and I hear are very comfortable to ride with.
Probably not your cup of tea,but I like the solidness of them......

14” are right on the cusp of needing brake lines. My 12” bars were really quite simple to change once I mastered the de-pinning.

If you don’t need brake and clutch lines I’d be happy to help (saves about 8 hours of labour, even though I managed to do them in about 5 with no prior experience!).

I'll second that - Northants V Twin.

Or if you don't mind something a little more rustic location wise try Steve Hazell, near MK .......... http://www.mauldenmotorcycle.co.uk/

Can I just say how brilliant Northants V Twin are .
Saved me a fortune . They ordered the extension kit but then didn’t need it as the 14” Burleighs fitted with the OE wires/cables .

Proper salt of the earth people . Dave and Julie are definitely old school !
