ICELAND - Big Bikes - It’s an adventure not a holiday!

It's our final day, thankfully dry weather helps dry all the kit out after a heavy dew before packing it all away for the last time.

After the battering of the previous day's ride it was decided to only include a few gentle tracks on our way back to Reykjavik, that old motto....quite while you're ahead at this stage of the game.

It had been a real pleasure to share this part of the world with truly such a great bunch of guys and gal :beerjug::bow

Some of those who I've shared these rides with have often taken the piss in the past with photos of me pointing to something, so finally I'll end this part by getting my own back :upyou :D

Great additional write up and photo's Tim

Fantastic country.. :thumb2

My finale.

After 5 weeks I was tired, the first trip had taken it's toll on both me and the bike.

I head downtown for a quiet beer and some reflection, watching the girls and wondering if there's still life in the old dog.

Sadly, although not unexpectedly, getting rogered by a polar bear was my only option.

So head back to my wonderful friends and hosts Silla and Throstur for dinner:kissy2

In the evening we all drive south in the luxury of a Landcruiser to watch the sunset

Next morning I'm looking down on the very same area where we had battled through poor weather a few weeks ago

With luck and perseverance we had been fortunate to get away this year, so I hope your time here may carry you through what is a shite time and you'll all come out safely the other side for more adventures. Thanks :beerjug:

Great photo's Tim ... thanks for sharing :thumb

Dunno if I'll ever make it to Iceland, but it's sure on my list :thumby:

Great pics Tim. You do have an eye for a good setting,I've saved some lovely pics of me that you took. Especially like the one of me the bike and the sunset whilst stranded on the "beach" waiting for the tide to go back out.
It was a pleasure spending time with you as well. It was hard work on some trails on the GSA, but it's also surprising how capable the bike actually is, just don't try the river crossings with a full tank of fuel, DAMHIK

Superb pictures and a place I'd love to take the WR some time. If you do any more trips would you be happy with a little bike & incompetent buffoon coming along?

He's managed perfectly well with incompetent buffoons coming along before (myself included)! ;) :D

Fantastic report Tim and everyone, it looks fabulous. Hats off to those on the big bikes, even more for the two-up! Jane and I did a dive trip there a few years ago, it would be great to go back on the bikes.

Tim, your pictures are great, you have a great eye. I don’t, which is why I’m massively irritated when Jane takes a brilliant picture with her phone of the same thing I’ve jut taken a crap picture of with my canon 5d!

Pretty much any bike will do the job but you'd need to either fitba larger tank or carry extra fuel in a WR.

Yes I'm planning for 2021 and will keep folk posted.

Berin, yes I only use an old phone for photos these days even though I enjoy using a camera but it's just extra stuff to carry. Looking at some of the other's photos, they appear much better quality so perhaps time to upgrade my phone :)

Same with me & my wife. I spend ages fannying around trying to get the best possible picture while my wife takes a quick snap on her phone & her pictures are always far better than mine.

Thanks for that, I do put a lot of effort into trying to tailor the trips to the riders.
It's not always 100%, partly since I have no control over the weather but hopefully everyone who's been on any of my trips in Iceland, Morocco etc. does reflect on a good time:beerjug:

Might see you in Leenane again next year. Covid-willing:friday

I keep coming back to have another look at some great photos.

This was a memorable trip. A great group of people in an amazing country blessed by the weather gods with 9 out of 10 days brilliant sunshine.

Even in August it was very cold at night, as witnessed by Tims frosty photo, and I was very pleased that I'd opted to take a three season down sleeping bag and silk liner. Bulky but worth it. Some of the others had packed lighter and ended up wearing most of their clothes some nights to try and keep warm.

Would a standard 1150 GS tank be big enough for one of these trips?
