As if escaping through the narrowest of restriction windows I arrived in Iceland several days before the first 14 day trip would start.

I always knew I'd feel free once reunited with my bike but on arrival I first had to endure a giant viking trying to pick a bogey from my brain with a sharp stick. Covid negative I was free for nearly 5 weeks!

After spending a first night with friends in Reykjavik I set off around four days alone to have a look around.

You may notice it's not very wet despite the title......the forecast wasn't good!

I'd base myself for a while at place I've stayed many times previously in order to visit some new areas, it also gave me chance to set my bike and gear up.

And to re familiarise myself with a local supermarket.

It was good to be back.

I'd used this one man Hilleberg Soulo in Iceland for a couple of weeks previously but now decided in wet weather a tarp was not a luxury but a necessity!

After food, time for a walk.

Most riders who come on my trips would agree that if they could return to the port after just one night they would lighten their luggage before resuming, I would do the same.

This long trail turned out to be a real gem and the sandy section soon had me needing to shed a layer

Such a great trail I hoped to incorporate it into one of the trips

Taking a walk from the track to have a look around

The track became a difficult stony climb which brought me into view of a familiar area

A lovely long dirt road brought me back to the lowlands and found what I thought may have been a river crossing...... ..a voice in my head immediately said
"Don't even f*ckin think about it!"

Ah that's more like it

In the morning, more blue skies and coffee.

I'd always had it in my mind to try a new and long alternative to some routes and despite being thwarted I need to go back and try again :blast

I tried an alternative route but was waylaid with a walk around an area I hadn't seen before despite riding very close to it years ago

Next day I took to the tarmac for a while to have a look at an area which is difficult to incorporate into the routes I make.

Back to my friend's place in Reykjavik where I can wash and dry my clothes on the hot water pipework in the basement.

Plenty of room to breathe there Timolgra - have a great trip:thumby:

Looking good Tim , you mean with all that luggage you dont carry bolt cutters as an “ universal key”

Great photos, must do this trip.

Tim, what tyres are you using on the 640?
