I'd be pushing for a new bike, it was 3 days old !!!

Insurance assessor will have final word at conclusion of consultation with authorised repairers. Owner of bike pushing for new bike won't make any difference to individual case. Insurance companies generally will only write of bike if uneconomical to repair under normal circumstances. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes , however, the same insurance company will be more than happy to use their own 'approved' repairer if a third party insurer is footing the bill and in doing so run a 2 day and maximum £700 repair up to over 8 weeks including transport of the damaged bike over 300 miles each way, storage and a loan bike making the final bill north of £8000

What exhaust pipe is that ? Looks nice....

Presuming that you are speaking with your insurance company then if they charge you your excess then you will have to claim it back from the other parties insurance.

Suspect it will still cost you in the long run with loaded premiums as they always ask you how many claims in the past ? years when you get qoutes re insure

Yup, that was my concern - despite it being non fault they still load your premiums next year. Wrong, I know, but there should be a way of claiming that from the bell end who hit you?

Typo - confused driver
