I have an Urban G/S. I missed the rev counter and gear indicator so eventually gave in and installed the second BMW clock. It is a relatively expensive upgrade but I preferred it to the alternatives I could find at the time.
However, I now see that the French firm DEVmoto have developed a "hack", which allows you to show the gear position and revs (numerically) on the original speedo. Not quite sure how it works but I imagine they splice the feed from the OEM lead in to the speedo. They are a good outfit and assuming it doesn't throw up error codes might be a good option to anyone considering this mod; just mentioned for interest. Their website is all in French but seems to be about 180 euro which is a lot cheaper than the second BMW clock and also retains the original single clock set up which is neat.
