Fergus, Well done. The only further thought is that one of the via (feedthrough) holes in the PCB is compromised. If you still have it open you might as well check them.

It's back in the bike but wouldn't take much to check them. I was thinking about those holes too - accessing the other side of the PCB looks potentially invasive or damaging. Am not gonna risk destroying it completely. Unless there is an easy way ?
did you check the video, the guy opened up all of one, (water damaged and only 8 months old since it was replaced....) there are capacitors on the other side he says play up... and some odd stuff I didn't understand.
