Play WMV files on MacBook Pro

I have a Seagate external hard drive that has some family footage WMV files from my Windows days. Could someone please tell me how I can play these files on my MacBook Pro ?

A search around the 'net throws up numerous player/converter options and I'm aware that I'm out of my depth. I don't need to edit the files, just view the footage.

Could someone please point me in the right direction. I would obviously prefer 'free' but I'm happy to pay if that's a better option.

    Thank you.

You can use flip4mac and then use quicktime player.

Many thanks for the replies, VLC worked perfectly...

I should have known that as I've used it before for playing something on Windows - old age is a curse....

    Cheers...
