Our village ‘Fred Dibnah’ recently converted an old Dutch style bike to electric, mainly to get him to the local pubs. He was interested to know the range but is getting on a bit and didn’t want to run out of power a long way from home so I took it out. We conveniently have the busway nearby that has a flat wide cycleway alongside. He has it wired to operate solely on electric but retains pedals and gears. It has 500W front hub motor and 36V battery. On leaving his front gate I was on full power continuously. I covered 22 miles before the power expired and attained a mean two way speed of 21mph. Great fun. I realise the set-up is not legal.

Good one!
Hoping to get mine sorted this week. I only needed a mile on my mates e bike to realise what fun they are. Tons of bridleways around me as well :)

22 miles at 21 mph solely on electric power makes that a really viable commuter for a lot of people.

+1 for pics, please!
