Changed the plugs today. Good timing. I think they'd done their job. Visible wear on all of them.

But I also discovered the RH lower coil is rusted and swollen, which I know means it's o n the way out.

Anyone know a good source for these before I she'll it £110 for a new one from BMW?

I bought mine from https://www.sparkplugs.co.uk

Ring them up and speak to Rebecca and ask for the Champion alternative to the Beru ones...quote the Beru numbers you need.

The Champion ones come with a sticker on that covers the Beru model number.

I replaced all 4 for less than £200 Inc postage.

Great company that I have no connection with other than a very satisfied customer.

From what I can gather from google this information might help.

If you google the champion part numbers they are significantly cheaper.

Left upper = Beru ZS385.........Champion BAEA385
Left lower = Beru ZS383..........Champion BAEA383

Right upper = Beru ZS 385........Champion BAEA385
Right lower = Beru ZS384..........Champion BAEA384.

Thanks - is this the same for all oilheads ( specifically a Twin Cam?)

I believe it is, but check first.

The Beru catalogue lists the part no for the 1200gs adventure up to 2014. So should cover all R1200’s The Champions cross reference catalogue only lists up until 2009.

The ZS385 is also listed for the earlier twin spark R1150’s

This is the illustration from the Champion catalogue.

Wow. Thank you for sharing that. Great info. If already made a cursory look for the Beru part numbers, but didn't get far!

I'm going to keep this info handy in case I need it. I'm pretty sure the RH coil is done as the plug was a different colour from all the others - yes, noting that the lower plugs are always a less efficient looking colour - though mine were all quite close actually. The other coils all 'appear' ok. But I'm now alerted!

This table is from the champion cross reference data which may also help as it quotes BMW part no’s against champion part No’s

But it’s still worth checking.

the angle of dangle is slightly different you need to relocate the wiring harness slightly to fit the beru ones on the early bikes...

underneath the cheap as chips champion sticker it says Beru

Yep need 4 cable ties, bit of a shock when I noticed that! Thought I had the wrong ones

The upper coil was if i recall available from a number of manufacturers,

The lower coils were the issue,

i did hear that you could use a normal car coil in the lower bit you needed to to modify the wiring to suit

I am sure Beru / Champion will do a replacement
