Bit before my time,
However, the orange 90s is an iconic bike,
Described as a super bike, hmmm don’t know about that but for sure it’s a nice bike.
Heavy flywheel,big cubes,delorto carbs,,my favourite motor,
There is something about the the clamshell airbox and manual choke lever,
It must be a tactile thing:p
As mentioned briefly in a previous thread here it is :thumby:

When I first viewed the bike,
It was apparent it had been crashed at some point.
That aside, the frame ,subframe ,main stand had been powder coated, and the bike had never been ridden again.
It’s been suggested that the engine has had new valve seats ,we will see.
My theory,,,,,,
The bike came apart for a rebuild,
Once it went back together (engine box and bevel looking bettter than they do now)
Due to electrical gremlins ,it never ran again .
The new parts fitted are all related to starter problems,
Switchgear,relays etc

Up close and personal:D

I had a lift on one, from Doncaster to York, with a rucsack that was badly packed for motorcycle travel, I ended up nearly sat off the back of the seat so I could lean forward enough so has not to be dragged off the back with the rapid progress.
A good weekend.
What was I doing in Donny with a rucsack full of camping gear?

I like patina as well Mikey but reckon that bike definitely deserves your magic touch.Funnily enough whenever I see an R90S it reminds me of a mate who had one years ago and he kept his absolutely immaculate. One mod he did was to drill the airbox, dunno if that was a good thing. His also had Lester wheels on it.We've kept an eye out for it at the Manx etc but have never spotted it since he sold it a long time ago.

Good luck mate

Can't wait to see this finished. There's a bit of history with this bike, I'll try and keep it short. My Dad, at the sprightly 79 years old that he is, is the gardener and good friend of Ann and Peter, life long bike fanatics. Peter had a lot of airheads in his time, and he bought this as his project with a view to converting it to unleaded and then riding it over to the TT. Sadly Peter passed away about 5 years ago, and the bike sat in the garage, on a ramp just as Peter had left it. Ann had a bit of a love hate relationship with the bike, as Peter was always off to the garage / workshop to tinker with the R90, or the old Enfield (Still tucked away under a dust sheet in the workshop) and chew the fat with my Dad.

Anyway, time passed, a few chancers crossed Ann's path, who were duly shown the door by my father when on gardening duties. It was sitting there, going nowhere and my dad gave me a call and said there's an orange BMW in Peters workshop, Ann wants to see it restored and running as a tribute to Peter, do I know anyone who may know what we are dealing with.

I popped down on my GSA, and had a look, saw it really was an R90S took a few pictures, and immediately thought of Mike. I sent the pictures to Mike, spoke to Ann, spoke to Mike, arranged a meeting and the rest is history as they say. Mike really impressed Ann, we drank tea, had biccies and shook hands to mull things over. Ann asked me what I think, I said Mike is a genuine top bloke and I'd say sell it to Mike and take him up on his offer to ride it back down to you so you can see and hear it running, and get some closure. She also spoke to her daughter who said much the same, so we left it there. My dad went down to do the gardens and asked if she'd spoken to Mike, they had a chat, and she spoke to Mike a few days later, a deal was struck, which i'm not party to, but she's very happy and the bike could not be in safer hands.

So there we have it, one R90S that deserves a full restoration, and "Mike the Bike" as Ann calls him to the rescue.

And trust me ......this is the SHORT version of the story :) :)

I'm really made up it's all worked out, and Ann get's closure and an R90S (Which was one of my poster bikes) is getting the mikeyboy treatment

Well you’re quite right - Mikeyboy is the man to do it. . . and it will be a top job!:thumby::thumby:

Have got coffee, biscuits and favourite comfy chair ready :thumb2

As said, most of the main bits have been powder coated but oddly, some parts rattle canned.

Hard to spot but the frame gussets have a slight ripple.

On a side note,
I treated the man cave to a wall mounted combined compressor and air line reel.
10 metres of airline and enough ummmph to run a blowing off gun etc.
Not too noisy either
Tis brill:D
