Do I inform my insurance company??

Its started already

As expected but maybe not so soon I've been clobbered financially within 5 days of my 'incident'....better described as "a careless scrote pulling out on me without looking".
Renewal on the very bike I was on is due on Friday. Cost to renew before the 'incident' £141.00. New docs received by email today at double the price. Docs are showing 1 claim. I haven't actually made a claim yet just informed insurance. Even if I had made a claim they don't no if its a fault or no fault claim yet.
Can't get through to the insurer on the phone at all.
I know this is just the start of things with two other bikes insured and two cars.
Shit eh?
Maybe I'll do the dash cam thing despite it being a bit "after the horse has bolted".

Almost exactly the same thing happened to my wife, except she was in her car and a girl pushed her pushbike across the road in front of her. Mrs P gave the girl a lift home as the bike had a buckled wheel. Next day the girl’s mother threatened a claim. Mrs P reported the incident to the insurer much as you have.

I mention it for two reasons:

1. My bike insurance fell due shortly after, so I had to mention it as Mrs P is a named rider on my policy. I got loaded by £100 or so that year, but the claim never materialised and all premiums went back to normal shortly thereafter. Though it was quite difficult for some brokers to understand the concept of adding a non-claim accident to a quote for the next few years.

2. As in Mrs P’s case, it might not be the lad but his parents who are stirring the pot. Funnily enough, a similar thing happened to my mum when she was 8 months pregnant with me, parent trying it on after their spawn was involved in an accident with her, not her fault. And that was 100 years ago this November. Plus ça change...

You might get an insurer who will give u a premium with the claim not yet resolved, but which will also give you an alternative premium if the claim is closed later with no payout.

Happened to me. Existing insurer wouldnt do what i suggest above, but i moved it to direct line who would (and did).

Old insurer wouldn't close claim until 6 months had elapsed. Fair enough.

Naturally old insurer who promised to get in touch about closing the claim, didnt, but it wasn't too arduous to get them to do so. Once they did and confirmed in writing, i sent that to DL who paid back the 'overpayment'.

More difficult if current insurer won't answer the phone. Also depends on which chimp answers the phone (at any company).

DL seem to have bright and sensible folk on the phones most if the time, although they don't do bikes. I'm almost a fanboy although i hate insurance mostly. When they cocked up, they sorted it eventually and gave me £50 for the aggro. They're never cheapest but are competitive and good with claims in my experience.

Update
After a few frustrating and pointless 'live chat' sessions `i eventually spoke to a human at the brokers (the underwriter is Axa). They contacted the claim department who confirmed that it was an 'open' claim being processed as NO FAULT so the renewal premium reverted to the lower original amount.....phew.
I now have the joy of dealing with the claim. My broker 'subbed it out' to a claims management company who apparently specialise in motorcycle claims. Turns out they actually earn their money buy supplying loan vehicles to claimants and stiffing the third party insurance for the cost. i didn't need a loaner so they chucked me on to another company. Unless I get an assurance that it'll be NO FAULT and no excess `i won't continue the claims. Parts etc add up to around £800 so ~I might just have to take the hit.
Such is life eh?

Hard but it’s you or him
Don’t forget he and his mum have escalated this already
Report him to police
This is not the time to feel sorry for him

Report him to police

The police will not be interested, as it’s a civil matter. One party has apparently claimed that the other was responsible for the coming together of two vehicles. The other has counter claimed that they were not. It is as simple as that. It happens quite regularly, as people lie for all sorts of reasons.

I can’t see why the OP is having to “deal with the claim” himself. Surely he is claiming against the third party for the damage to his vehicle, amounting to £800? He’s told us that the third party was responsible, this version of the story being backed by an independent witness.

That makes you just under a 100 years old. Many happy returns when the great day comes.

Sorry to hear this incident has caused you so much hassle..Insurance companies will use any possible excuse to raise premiums..now follows a tale of woe..Mrs Brummy sat in our car, registered and insured in my name but we both use it, waiting for her hair appointment, stationary in a parking space when a chap reversed into our car. He appologised and accepted responsibilty. now that he has spoken to his insurers his story has changed, this has become 50/50 as its my wifes word against his even though she was parked/stationary. this lair has cost me a fortune..my r1250gsa insurance went up 200 quid as this is still ongoing and is treated as my fault until its resolved, even though I wasn't there and its nowt to do with my bike..van insurance gone up from original renewal quote once i told them, and my car insurance loaded by 100 quid..i phoned lots of brokers who all did the same..plus i have to pay my insurance excess for the repair..repair cost 700 quid including loan car..cost to me about the same..fooking rip off, you can see why people dont bother!

Just for balance:

I was knocked off my motorbike at a mini-roundabout by a gentleman running into the back of me. I suffered a broken wrist requiring surgery.
Whilst waiting for the surgery (within 24 hours of accident), my insurance company had arranged for collection of bike, had contacted witnesses and were acting on my instructions to recover all losses from the third party.

Within a few weeks, I had got the bike back fully repaired, was assessed and awarded a significant sum for my injuries which also included the repair/replacement of all my damaged clothing, and all of the money was recovered from the Third Party Insurance. My insurers noted on my file that this was a "no blame claim" with all losses recovered.

My premium went down the following year!

So it's not always doom and gloom when you are the victim of somebody else's poor driving!

My accident last December 12 months my own insurance company fucked me round. The 3rd party insurance was brilliant. My broker no longer uses the company because they were so bad. Wankers. JJH

People lie to their insurers when taking out insurance and after being involved in an accident and in non-motoring claims. We see examples on this site, paraded quite openly. The most common one being, “The rip-off merchants wanted £200, so I registered me bike at me dad’s and told them it was kept there. Result!” In the end we all pay for it, some more than others.

Welcome to the world of Oirish Motor insurance. One stage removed from the thieving scumbags that deal with Oirish food processing insurance.

I'd say the problem is the 3rd party, not the insurance companies.

But i bet you chose your insurance company because it offered the cheapest quote at the time you took out insurance with them.
