.....cooler question!

Any idea how much oil it holds, roughly? And, if the engine's cold, does oil stay in the cooler if the oil's changed?

I always put in 4 litres after an oil and filter change.

Ta. Is that why, if we change the oil without getting the engine properly hot, we end up overfilling with oil? Or is the amount left in the cooler insignificant?

For s short while after start up, a valve stops the oil flowing through the rad. So if you switch it off before that valve opens, you'll have some oil waiting in the rad, which will mean less in the sight glass...

Not sure how much, but yes enough to make you notice a difference in the sight glass.

There's probably more in the engine & pipe work atn left in the cooler ..

Its like a car rad, there is very little in the rad at any time , the rest is going round the system,

Its just surface area with very small bore tubes (which allows air cooling)

When I drain the oil with bike on centre stand until it stops dripping, put it on side stand and more oil comes out so I guess this may contribute to your issue.
