2021 1290S

Apparently there are 11 seats to chose from to suit all rider sizes.

11 seats yes maybe but thats nor 11 different rider choices it was a low none eco a high eco et then the same for the pillion and then the rallye style in reality you get options low high no heat low high with heat and low high rally style but they need to fix the seat fastening problem and get them available real soon PLS.....

Well, I certainly wouldn’t have an issue with a choice if seats, considering my 35” inside leg.

I actually prefer the look of the soft panniers but feel the metal ones are more likely to hold on to my iPad n stuff when parked up.

Agreed.
I have both and much prefer the Xtremada soft jobbies but I wouldn’t use them in UK due to the thieving scum that are lurking.

At 6’4” with a 36” inside leg I’ll be wanting a heated high seat, if and when they are available and how I get on with the standard seat fitted with an Airhawk.

6’3” here

I will report back after my visit.....

Well I went for a test ride and of course loved it, left a deposit on an orange one (really couldn't decide on the colour although of course the choice isn't exactly bewildering!!) with tech pack and a few other bits including ergo seat as I wasn't convinced by the standard seat even after an hour. Felt far more taught and solid than my 19 plate 1290 and so well balanced too.

Should have it next week minus most of the parts that are still stuck in transit or in Austria / a container somewhere / on a ship. Photo's to follow of course. Now I just have to remove stuff from the 'old' one!

I finished stripping mine tonight. Some of it will go on the new one. Sat-nav bracket, larger footplate, Oberon clutch slave and Barkbusters.

Need to fit a Scottoiler - anyone had experience with their digital one? Riding buddy has the vacuum one but you have to watch it hes says. When warmer weather arrives it tends to over-dose. A few years ago I looked into a digi one but at the time the talk was all about how unreliable they were. Maybe sorted now.

I have a Scottoiler on my 1190. I wouldn't buy another one.

I'd go for a Cobrra Nemo 2, or more likely, one of the clones on Aliexpress.

That’s what I’ve ordered, tried AliExpress but when at checkout I received a message saying it couldn’t be supplied to the UK. Order one on Amazon instead, cost more but still not expensive.

That's what I've just removed from the 1290. Use Scottoiler oil in it. I could reuse that i guess. It's not perfect and something else on the bars.

That's odd. They keep sending me emails wanting me to buy more stuff. I haven't actually used them this year though.

On the other hand, I just received an order from the USA that arrived in less than a week with no VAT, duty or handling charges on it :)

I’ve bought a fair amount of stuff from AliExpress in the past, this is the first time I’ve had an issue. Not a big deal, hopefully it was just the one supplier.

I had the scottoiler digital one on my old 990 and it was terrible, ugly controller and over complicated.

I use a Toro now on my 1290 and that will be swapped over onto the new one. It works on vibration, wobbles a weighted pin that lets oil pass a valve, simple adjustable and effective with no 'plumbing' of any sort to the bike.

I am lost with the bewildering colour choices offered on the S model, I know which I think looks best (I think) but any opinions on the array of choices would be appreciated.

It is on answer but I want the active suspension guff and the cast weeks of the S, I don't mind the black and orange just wish there was an option that included that fantastic blue they used on the last of the 990 adventures and on the R model

You can get the blue panels obvs. £350 or so each side. The other white bits are easily painted. The rear subframe can be removed and painted but not sure how much work involved yet.

Had a run over to Potteries Motorcycles this morning as they are the closest KTM dealer to me that opens on a Sunday to have a look at the new 1290 SAS.

They only had the orange ones in which I am not keen on the look of and overall prefer the styling of my 2017 black 1290 SAS.

Standard seat in high position not high enough for me at 6' 3" so would need one of the ergo seats when they are available. Otherwise looks a nice bike and sure I will get round to having a test ride later in the year.

Offered me £9k for mine with 11k miles so would be a big jump to change and so cannot see me considering it until there are some decent discounts to be had ;)
