I am getting my wife a Keis heated body warmer for Christmas. Part of the attraction is she can also use it off the bike with a battery pack whilst watching the kids play football, rugby etc.

This is the body warmer:

This is the controller:

So on the website, it says this controller can handle 3A but is only suitable for their insoles and gloves. The body warmer only draws 1.2A. Any idea why can't I use the controller for this body warmer? Have emailed Keis and got a short reply that it is not suitable. Still not sure why not?

Anyone who knows more about this stuff than me, please fill me in before I electrocute my missus......

I have two jackets - one a gillet like your link, and the other a full sleeved jacket. I can't answer your question directly, but can tell you that my jackets both come with a different and beefier controller than your link!

(They work very well on the bike and are great this time of year .. ).

Have a look at different suppliers, as mine came from J and S this time last year with the controller included. There were a number of online shops doing the same.

can you experiment with the electricution and forward the details please.........................................

The lightweight controller should be fine for the heated vests, bodywarmers, gloves and socks but definitely not for the heated jackets and trousers. You should get Keis to confirm this.

Bearing in mind that I do not have my heated jacket turned anywhere near maximum, a vest/bodywarmer should be fine for UK use. I wouldn't try to ride through a Scandinavian winter without a proper heated jacket.

I did ask Keis. They basically ignored my more technical question and repeated the guff off the website.

So wife has been using the lightweight controller for a couple of weeks on walks out etc and it's been fine. Keis want you to buy the bigger, more expensive unit!!

The body warmer only draws a max of 1.2A. This lightweight controller can handle 3A, and says on it trips at 4A. So no problem.
