Rickman Metisse

Upside down again, first time that’s happened for a few years.

Are you building the wheels up yourself? I’ve done a few and quite rewarding when done. Reluctant to put tyres on myself with levers on shiny new rims!
How did you work out the offset for the rims or were you supplied with the info?
I build all my wheels, I won’t be putting my tyres on ,I have a mate who is a tyre dealer so he’ll be doing it.
I have an XT500 so was able to measure the front offset, the rear rim is dead centre with equal offset both sides.

Making slow but sure progress, made new spindles, wheels fitted and I’ve got the engine plates sorted,I have a spare set of crankcases to line up chain line and final drilling of the plates. It’s a pleasure to work on something so clean.

Well I’ve made some progress, the engine is ready to go in,I’m just waiting for a mate to call to give me a hand, I’m paranoid about scratching the frame hence the wrapping on the frame tubes. Head light and front indicators fitted.

Cheers Micky, it’s going together really well, sometimes I just sit in the garage looking at it from different angles, sad I know, but who cares

Ha ha .... I can do that with the MZ or Xcountry in the garden :D

I don't have a garage

It's not sad at all, it's perfectly normal :thumb2

Well, the engine is in place, it’s resting on the bottom engine bolt and a piece of wood, the aluminium engine plates are ready to be drilled, then I’m going to make a head steady.
It’s great working on new parts, hardly getting my hands dirty.

Are you using the decompressing original system or do you now have a starter motor that'll fit and spin her over easily enough?

This engine wasn’t fitted with a decompression system, I’m not using a starter motor ,kickstart only, the starter motors are notoriously unreliable.

ENTIRELY down to following this build I found myself perusing the bay. like you do.

YAMAHA XS650 METISSE | eBay

Apart from the wheels :)eek:), Handlebars, Seat, Side panels and exhaust, I quite like it....:D

I have no idea of prices but that doesn't APPEAR to be mad money....:nenau

In my opinion for a Metisse to look right it has to have period style running gear and bars and levers etc,and preferably drum brakes, if it looks right it probably is right.

In one :thumb2

That Yam 650 has the basics of a great looking bike if you keep the frame and engine then bin the rest. Actually, don’t bin the parts, burn them so they’re never seen again :D
