Rickman Metisse

I’ve spent around £5k so far, I’m budgeting around £600 for the exhaust system, Speedo around £200, and various cables and little bits around £200.
It’ll be around the £6k in total. I’ve got to put a value on it then for insurance purposes.
That sounds very cheap for a bike of that quality!
I would happily pay 6k for something like that. Pure quality and class!

That’s what I’ll have spent on it, I think it’s probably worth a bit more than that, I’ve also got around 200 hours labour in it. I’ll be keeping this one but have another engine, so may build another one to sell depending on the reaction to the first one.

We all love the first one!!! If you build another one there'll be one helluva queue to buy it :bow

I think I will start saving my pennies in case lewisjohn builds a second one of these.

Don’t know how much he will ask for the second one, but from the looks of this one so far I think I’d seriously consider buying the second incarnation.

Please keep us updated on progress

That is looking stunning, as I said earlier I actually prefer the look of the Yamaha engine so no heretic burning from me:D. I'm just so in awe of people who can do stuff like this, just superb:bow Cheers:beerjug:John B

Two into one exhaust , front pipes are done, designing a silencer next, it’ll probably be an offset megaphone style with a removable baffle.

Is that an on-board engineer living in the rocker cover?

Lovely build, looking forward to seeing her fire-up.

Exhaust

2-1 hi-level stainless exhaust finished , just got to make a hanger. I was going to take the bike up to Raysons exhausts in Rochdale, and leave it there for a few weeks for the fitting.
I was on an XS forum and found a bloke about seven miles from me who builds exhausts in his shed. He also builds electronic PMA ignition kits for the XS650 engine. The bike didn’t leave my garage, he came back and fore taking measurements and made what you see.

Lovely work he obviously knows what he is doing - can't wait to see the finished bike.

Looking good, can’t be far off now.

Is it a new bike or do you get the registration from a donor bike?

First attempt at a heat shield, needs a polish before I decide if I’m happy with it.Also a couple of creases to remove.

I wasn’t happy with my first attempt at a heat shield. The holes were too close together, second attempt looks much better in my opinion.

First time out in the sun, the proportions are spot on, in my opinion the engine looks a better fit than a Triumph engine, the purists will probably be horrified at that statement.

I agree with both of those thoughts!

That is looking absolutely fabulous.

As a guide my 'il Bastardo' (Italian for mongrel, as is Metisse in French, coincidentally) cost £7k including the donor Monster at almost £2k - and that was paying for labour. So doing your own work, I suspect your estimate is about right. If you have the skills to do this yourself (as you clearly have) that's a hell of a bike for the money.

As has been said, I can't wait to see/hear this bike running.

Finished

Finally finished and ready for MOT. It’s been a very enjoyable build, I’ve been asked by a friend to build one for him, so probably going to order a kit over the next few weeks. I have two engines to choose from,
a big bore 840 and a standard 650.
