I’d be interested to know about the second hand goods. Bikes are still liable to duty as before and vat. JJH

Absolutely heart broken!

Apparently there is no need to fill out any forms between NI and Eire. But there is that mystical border on the Irish Sea. I’m optimistic. JJH

Any vehicle purchased from GB is now liable to 21% Vat on the purchase price. The agreement reached last week only means that the additional 10% Tariff will now not be applied. This additional 21% must be paid to customs before the vehicle is brought for registration and VRT will not register the vehicle until it is customs cleared. You would need to employ the services of a customs agent to do this for you as the paperwork is a specialist only job!

Any vehicle imported from Northern Ireland will not be subject to additional VAT provided the vehicle was in the north prior to January 1st this year. However if the vehicle moves from GB to Northern Ireland after that date and then is imported into the south, the additional 21% VAT is payable!

As I understand it goods moving between GB and ROI will not attract additional VAT if the value is low (I think I saw a figure of below €150 somewhere) or if they are sent outside of a commercial context eg gifts etc. I’m guessing this should cover us for most stuff we buy on here!

Hope that helps!

Enda

Seemingly, according to an post site, gifts over 45e in value may be subject to charges post july 2021.

I wonder is there any way a UK VAT refund would be due on a bike upon export?? (if being purchased from a dealer)

Looking to see if amazon.fr or .de may be alternatives to the old .co.uk one.

Post from UK seems to be about two weeks late, parts suppliers over here seem to be experiencing long delays. We've traditionally got all our retail stuff via UK wholesalers, I can imagine France or similar becoming the new goto place for such supplies.

The problem at the moment is..........all the stuff shipped from Europe using the usual suspects, UPS, DHL, DPD.....get sorted at UK hubs on their way to Ireland.

Bought 2 pairs of gloves, 1 from Germany (shipped with UPS) and 1 from France (using Le DPD) in December..........still waiting.

I tracked a package I got from Namibia before Xmas, did quite a tour of countries to get here but it did Netherlands and Germany before seemingly coming directly to Ireland. Hopefully things will evolve into something that makes sense.

I know that BMW Ireland source all their spares from BMW U.K. I know this because they change the parts from euro to sterling and back to euro incurring the associated charges and kindly passing these on to the customer. I don’t know what they’re going to do now. It’s a big mess. JJH

I ordered a gand brake cable from Euro Car Parts just before Christmas. They've been expecting it any day but now don't expect it for another week or two. Will be intetesting to see where it was made and to imagine what a more direct route would be car is a German brand.

Update on the NI aspect, The vat charge on used cars from GB to NI has been dropped this afternoon.

has anyone noticed VRT rates have risen. friend of mine was looking at a car up north and when he did VRT yesterday it had gone up from when he checked same car over Christmas.

I think that BMW Ireland is actually a subsidiary of BMW UK.
