Not a bad comparison.

No mention of main stands or bags though :doris

I can't open the YouTube link
(I reckon it's because it's embedded or some other such witchcraft)
Can someone try to post it again.

S20 5G sent this......

I enjoyed that.

As much as I'd love a 1290 I think it would be frustrating on the road because you couldn't ride it properly ie give it full beans.

Had one for a day earlier in the year. The updates to the engine make for a much more enjoyable ride. I liked it. Prefer the Tuono having said that though.

The SD is a very focussed bike that needs decent weather to enjoy properly (same with the Tuono) and the same seems to be the case for the 890 although I’ve no tried one.

Have you ridden a 790?

I think the mix of toys for most people is great especially considering the price.

However, there was something about it which led me to misbehave which could have got me in a lot of trouble.

I now have a black 790 which I've not ridden yet and maybe this won't lead me astray because some say it's the slower colour!

I tried the 1290 and it was immense. The acceleration is astonishing, it handles well and was comfortable on my short test ride. But it wasn't what I wanted. It was way too much. I then tried the 790. Perfect. Smaller, lighter and with more than enough performance for Dorset's roads. I looked briefly at the 890R, but it was another £3,000 and for that I can personalise the 790 and have lots of petrol money left over.

I've got my GS for distance stuff. If I decide to change it I will have another look at the 1290, the GT. It could fit the bill nicely.

Not ridden the 790 Duke.

The difference with the new SD1290 is that its a nice ride at low speeds now. Better suspension too. Agree that its a license losing bike, but if you've a mind to, just about any bike these days could do a job with that.

..............

You can't even begin to imagine how tedious I find ALL vBlogs............... However, I think that's the first one I have ever managed to watch from beginning to end, that guy speaks my language and just gets it. No boring, nerdy, technical bollox just very well put over descriptions of the bikes in a way that resonates :thumb2

Oh yes you can, just have to choose the moment........

I'm still more than happy with my 790, but I suppose even happier with it, now I have the Tuono in the garage too.
Most of my riding is within my county, and I pretty much know it like the back of my hand. So I know where you can have a play and when you can't.* But for me, that play will still always be back B roads and the nadgery stuff. (* Much more cautious out of county ..!!).
Its not just about not getting caught, I also enjoy the technical aspect of riding the nadgery stuff and covering ground quickly in a challenging environment. And a middle weight (790 / 890 / street triple/ MT07 etc etc) is just great for that.

But its nice to have something that'll stretch its legs too isn't it ? :D

Whilst I'm sure the those middleweights would be fine touring or a long w/e away in wales, I guess thats where the Tuono will get used ... :thumb2

What year Tuono? If its 17 plus pop up to see The Hilltop man. The role-on power after is sublime. Still can't quite believe I sold mine. But if they say get a bike for the riding you do then the Tuono ended up being too focussed to be used enough to justify the garage space. 3000 miles in 3 years! But only someone who's owned one can really appreciate how good they are to ride, dry roads, sunny days perfection. Sounds like the 890SD is another perfect bike for perfect days too.

Yeah .. just bought the Tuono new. On a 70 plate

(So Yes .... once it’s had its first service I might go and see Geoff .. )

I haven’t ridden the 890 but have ridden the 790 and 1290 quite extensively. The 1290 is an explosive riot, the 790 does everything you want or need on nadgery B roads and is so much more controllable.

However if I were to buy one I’d buy the 1290, even though the 790 is probably better.

Why, because being 6’ 2” and fairly hefty the 790 is too too compact for me.

But too similar to your Tuououonooo in power and purpose ?

It’ll be for work. Nice balance of keep up with anything and light a playful.
I want the Tuono to keep as low mileage as possible.
And the 890 is very usable on the road in that sweet spot way (as the journo in the video describes it). The Tuono is a bit of a beast on the road which is good (like great), but I don’t want that every day. Let’s save that for high days, holidays and track days!
