The Exclusiv is off to a new home, so this is the next one, a 1982 black CS. The bike was a runner when I bought it, but it was showing it’s age. Someone had a go at a bit of a refresh, but not to the appropriate standard.
I got the black powder coating back last week, so decided to make a start today.
Mike has already done the clever bits, paint is due imminently. So here we go again.

Christ Colin, your going to be having Norton's new owners knocking on your door seeking advice on rapid production techniques :augie

Your standards are very impressive Colin.

Your exclusive was stunning and looked brand new.

I will enjoy following this build. :popcorn

A CS? Now yer talkin'! A rare beast indeed with only 4k odd produced and a very desirable one. And in black (with gold pinstripes?), be still my beating heart! :D

Don't you have enough airheads yet Pete?

In reality the CS is just like the "Basic" everyone get their knickers wet over is just another parts bin special BUT very nice ones! :rob
Unlike the R65LS or the R80ST and G/S which were true short run bikes with specific parts

And these days you can make anything from the parts catalogues

Except the LS and ST G/S rear wheels and front fairings / instruments which are unique to the bikes

I should have kept my CS. It was ex-Special Branch and looked after by Mick Barr all it's life. Fabulous bike, far better than the RS to live with. The RS was simply too much faff to turn around in a limited space and the fairing gaiters always squeaked which drove me up the wall. :D I went up to my sister on Skye in lashing rain on the CS, and back again the next day. It was so comfy and a bit sit-up-and-beg so good visibility down the road. Quicker than the RS I thought too.

I would love another one... hint!

When I was a 17/18yo young lad tooling around Shropshire on my cd175 and 250g5 a guy used to come and see my dad about some business on his black R100CS. He was an as hard as nails metal basher from somewhere in the Black Country. The bike just blew me away. I thought it was awesome especially with the tales of riding to Greece through Yugoslavia or to Portugal the long way round. Pics of the bike with topless girls on the beaches left me in awe of the guy. I wanted one then and I think if I saw the right one for sale I would buy one now.

Nice one Colin 👍. Looking forward to the rest of the build and seeing it in the flesh at some point.

Update 1

Engine in today, couldn’t do it yesterday as K had a migraine. Spent the rest of the day finishing the front forks and sorting the parts out for electro plating. Time to go for a run with the dog.

update 2

Got a bit stuck on the front of the engine when I realised I didn’t have the bolts and special washers for the timing cover. The clutch is due tomorrow so no progress at the back either. So cleaning refurbishing and refitting parts where I could.
Attached a picture of the bike as I bought it just for reference.

Update 3

Making progress. Clutch and gearbox sorted. The electrics are done with the exception of the diode board and coils. Just waiting for some new solid mounts for the DB, the coil mounts are with the electroplating company. I have the wheels back from the painter, tyres will be on next week so it can go back on its wheels.
