I posted this in the suspension section but only had 1 reply so far.
Can anybody tell me if the front suspension ( Ohlins in this case ) off a BMW R1150 RT (2002-2004) will fit on a R1150 GS. (2002).
The code off the RT one im looking at is S46ER1. The code for the GS one is the same according to the Motorworks website. This would suggest its the same to me but I may be missing something?
Ta.

I think Schtum answered your question.

I’ll expand slightly.

Given that the fixings for both the R1150RT and the R1150GS front suspension unit are the same, then there is no reason why it shouldn’t fit.

However, you will be aware that the OEM suspension on each of the models is different to cater for different weight etc.

So the suspension unit from the RT, whilst it will fit, might be incorrectly set for the GS and outside the suspension range.

Frankly you would better off asking our resident suspension specialist. Why not drop Denz0 of this Parrish a PM.

The ohlins part number for the RT is BM124 and for the GS it is BM425. The adventure is BM216. The RT part would likely fit but would be too short. I’ve got a pair on my R1150GS and they are great. Been rebuilt a couple of times so now a bit triggers brush...particularly the rear which was rebodied the last time :)

Oh and the S46ER designation is a 46mm emulsion tube shock body.

Suspension travel is 120 mm on the RT, 200 mm on the GS. They are certainly not swappable.

I’ve got a pair of mint GS shocks off a 13k mile bike if you’re interested....

Only if it’s Ohlins thanks. And I only need a front one now. The rear one is at MCT having magic applied right now.
