Maybe I’ve been lucky but after many airheads and thousands of miles travelled I’ve never had a punctured diaphragm. The symptoms were, above 3000 revs on the road, not stationary, it felt as if it was running on to reserve. Very lumpy.
I weighed up the options and started with carbs first. I found the tiny holes , barely visible, by the securing plate. I had spares in stock. Problem sorted. Ironically the only bits I didn’t touch when I rebuilt the carbs as part of the winter restoration.

First thing to check on any diaphragm type carb. Make sure that you locate the tags correctly or the slider could end up facing the wrong way.
