This article appeared in Tourenfahrer magazine 6/2021.
It’s a 1,500 km (940 miles give or take) route that follows the old Iron Curtain that divided the country.
A free translation of the blurb in foreign says:
A trip along the former inner German border, on the so-called Green Belt, is borderline in the double sense. Markus Golletz (text & photos) and Thomas Rebre explored Germany's largest biotope network. A border experience through nine federal states - from the Baltic Sea to the Czech Republic.

Breakpoints
Green Ribbon, Border attractions: Memorials at Schaalsee, Rögnitz (filming location Buck-Boje-Filme), Grenzhus Schlagsdorf, Grenzland-Museums Schnackenburg and Göhr, Village Republic Rütersberg, Grenzlehrpfad Zicherie-Böckwitz, Marienborn Memorial, Border Monument Hötensleben, Ring der Erinnerungen Sorge (Harz), Heinz Sielmann Stiftung / Gut Herbishagen, Grenzlandmuseum Eichsfeld, Grenzmuseum Schifflersgrund, Point Alpha near Geisa, Skulpturenpark Deutsche Einheit in Mellrichstadt and Grenzmuseum Eußenhausen, DDR-Grenzbahnhof-Museum Probstzella, German-German Museums in Behrungen and Mödlareuth
Other attractions: Baltic Sea from Priwall, Elbe beaches, Wendland, Bikeschmiede in Zilly, East German Vehicle Museum Benneckenstein, Palace Schöningen, Thüringer Warte, Slate Village Lehesten, Czech border area
Riding a motorcycle
Even a petite Brixton Crossfire 500 has done well on bumpy column paths and border slopes. The long-stroke suspension BMW Xchallenge had to transport a little more luggage. Experimental driving on the column paths designed with perforated concrete is only possible in a few places, but a good idea for a rest on the Green Belt. Exploring the biotope network and nature reserves by motorcycle does not have to be a contradiction, provided that consideration is behaved accordingly. In retrospect, there was a lot of positive feedback from locals, other travelers and conservationists.

As far as I can make out, the green bits on the route show where the bods went off-piste as it were.
For example, by zooming in on the map drawing you can (with a local map and a bit of imagination) work it out:
