Corbin Seats

I love Corbins and have had them on many bikes, including a CRF250L, although always purchased used as I can’t see how they could justify the new cost. They do seem to have a fairly common problem with the bases not being 100% perfect in shape resulting in the covers chafing against the frame or bodywork in one or two areas, eventually wearing through the cover material. They must be lined with lead as they are incredibly heavy compared to stock seats.

Agreed. I had a Corbin on my old CBR1000F; lovely and comfortable, but the build quality was atrocious and exactly as you describe, the base chafed through the cover in a couple of places. Can't complain as I got it from a bloke in Southampton who sold me the seat and a pair of original mirrors for £30. Those were the days.

I got some alloy plates from Vern, many years ago, that you insert under the seat mounts to raise them a few mm and it avoids the chafing caused when you sit down and compress everything. It tends to happen when you put side panels on the bike that presumably weren’t there when they designed the seat.

Slight hijack...
Anyone got an 1100GS aftermarket seat they would care to sell?

Cheers

The finished article

Finally got it finished. Front seat from on 04 RT with home made luggage plate to fill the void where the pillion seat would be, which locates using the original GSA seat lock. Edge trim from ebay and some sprung loaded stainless steel luggage hooks from Metalwork Supplies in Hereford. RT seat locates using the original front mount from the GSA, raised by 6mm to give a little backwards lean to take the pressure of Big Jim and the twins, and the rear rubber mounts on the seat locate in a pair of stainless mounts turned up from a boat prop shaft. Luggage plate also locates over the pillion retainer on the RT seat to lock everything in place. No mods to the GSA and if I need to change back to carry a pillion I just need to remove the rear mount locators and the 6mm spacers from the front mount, then the GSA seat goes straight back on. Not a Corbin, but much improved comfort for under £100.

Looks great, Mac. A nice bit of fabrication and you’ve got something to be really pleased with.

From the pics, it looks like the seat moves you slightly further back. Is that right?

I got hold of a Pak-Meister front seat that’s made the difference for me, but I’m quite jealous ;)

Hi Paul,
I think it moves me back about 1" compared to the original dual seat, but I probably won't notice as I was always shuffling about after the first hour anyway. I confess to be pleased with the end result.

Nice work
Anyone found a pair of Sargent seats for my 1100 yet?
